Hello,
It has been a few months since my last post. Fortunately I had a time where my symptoms seemed to be getting better (never fully went away, but they were manageable). However, now it seems as if the incontinence has come back in full force. I wet the bed last night and the last few days have been really tough staying dry. My question is this, I am noticing that it is difficult to start urinating even when I feel like I need to. Also, even after urinating, I constantly feel like I still have to go. A google search tells me that this could be my prostate, but seeing as how I'm only in my late 20's I would not think that to be the problem. Also when I have gone to the urologist in the past, they have told me that my prostate is fine. My question is, is it possible these two things are related (the hesitancy and the leaking)? I'm noticing that it's becoming increasingly difficult to feel like I've gotta go pee until right before I'm about to have an emergency. All of these symptoms are very distressing and I plan to make an appointment with the urologist as soon as possible, but I thought I would ask around here and the NAFC forums as well to see if anyone has had a similar experience. Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide.
Regards,
Dallasinc

Sounds as though it might be a neurological problem. Did your urologist order a bladder emptying exam? With males, prostate issues can develop any time after puberty; they just become more and more common the older you become. Good luck and keep us informed.

I would second the possible neurologic issue. Although only a urogist is going to be able to find out for sure.
I too have neurologic issues following a car wreck. I developed both detrusor sphincter dyssynergua, and bladder sphincter dyssynergia. U fortunately my issue were got so severe before I found a competent urologist that only sphincterotomy surgeries have helped me.
Get yours checked out asap, while it possible they can still do something for you.

Yes, it could be your prostate even at your age. Has this happened to you, after you void, and you feel empty then as you zip up you dribble a small amount of urine. This was what I was doing and my urologist told me that it was a symptom of a large prostate.

Absolutely! That's exactly what happens almost every time I pee (assuming I make it there). Except it's not always a little dribble, most times it's a good amount of urine that ends up on my pants. It doesn't matter how long I sit there or what I do to make sure "I'm done". I've even tried that thing where you press behind your scrotum and it's supposed to drain anything stuck in a kink. I always end up with a leak right afterwards (I call it a leak because really it's more than a dribble; or at least it's a very large dribble if that's the word for it). Add that to the feeling of still feeling like I have to go right after I finish and it's very frustrating.

Update* I've made an appointment with the urologist, but she's pretty booked up so it's gonna be a little bit before I can get in. I went out to eat tonight with my parents since the wife was at the movie. I wore a pull-up since I was going to be close to the restroom and I was self-conscious about wearing more protection (stupid I know) but somehow I was ok. Only a few incidents but it all
held. I did wear my Gary Active pants over the pull-up just in case. The urgency feels like it's getting worse. I get very little notice of a full bladder and then I better be by a bathroom or else I'm gonna have an accident. Although when I do feel like I have to go, it's really tough to get started! It's very confusing and frustrating. Just
crossing my fingers that the doctor can give me an actual answer this time around. Thank you again to everyone for the thoughts and support

I have very similar issues to yourself. And I think you're handling it well. Only thing I can say, just consider the situations you'll be in. If you have a time or scenario where you might be more vulnerable or at risk for a big accident choose more protection. If you have a low risk situation you have more ability to go with the lesser protection. If you notice any sort of changes (no pun intended hehe (; ) take note and act via that. Allow that to prompt your next step and how you go about accidents and which protection will be best for certain scenarios.

Unfortunately it seems like most of my leaks are pretty considerable leaks (way more than a typical pull-up can hold; which is why I'm insanely grateful that I didnt leak through them yesterday). As self-conscious as it makes me, I've been wearing briefs during the day and at night. The hardest part for me is trusting my protection. I'm constantly checking them to make sure that I'm still ok and that they're not leaking, which only adds to the stress of having to wear them. I guess it is just a matter of time and acceptance? Even with a uro appointment, I'm starting to be discouraged by the fact that they've never been able to give me many answers before so I'm not expecting anything different this time around. I'm rambling in frustration at this point

Dallasinc,
I agree with Hotdogg that you are managing things fairly well.

However, if you are a heavy wetter, as I am, you always can add a booster pad to your diaper for additional absorbency. It takes time to build up confidence in your diaper and to learn how to judge when you are close to leaking.
Do your diapers have internal standing leak guards? They are not just for bowel incontinence. They also help keep urine in the main channel of the diaper and away from the leg gathers while the absorbent mat has time to absorb the pee. That is a big help for those of us who "flood" our diapers.

If you're worried about leaking because of how large your accidents have been, maybe it's time to get more protection? I'm not going to tell you what to do but it might be time for a more full on diaper. I know that can be a little shot to the ego but you get used to it quickly. It's ok nothing you're saying is abnormal. It is frustrating and it can be stressing but I think what would be best for you is to get heavier protection. It will help put your mind at ease. Your odds of leaking will be significantly less. Hugs, --HotDogg
