embarassment HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sun Apr 10, 2016 2:01 am

I am so embarrassed about wearing pull ups as an adult. I hate peeing myself in public and having to sit in it. I just hate this whole incontinence thing. I am newly incontinent and I cant seem to get over it. Can anyone give me advice?

Not to sound insensitive, but as I replied to your other message, read the archives on this site. This issue has been discussed many times and you can learn a lot from what already has been said.

All of us have been through the same anxiety you feel and things will get better. You will better understand what to expect after you have the results of your urological tests and have discussed them with your physician.

If you are sitting in wetness then you may need a little heavier protection or need to change earlier. It takes time to get use to your bladder doing what ever it what's to. This is something you are not use to so give it sometime and you will get use to it. Incontinence is a life changing event so find the right protection that works for you. Diaper primer is a good place to start with finding the right products. But you will have accidents so be prepared for them.

More food for thought for you. Most drug stores and even food stores often dedicate half of, or even a full isle for adult diapers. They don't stock that much for something that doesn't sell. Meaning there are literally millions of adult diapers sold every year. You are not alone, and for something so common you should have no reason to be embarrassed because of also needing diapers.

And like the others said. If you feel like you are sitting in your pee, then you need a heavier level of protection. Pullups are only intended for light incontinence. For moderate or heavy incontinence you will need tape style diapers. They will absorb more, and feel less wet at the same time.

For what it's worth, I am relatively new to incontinence. Like you I have a hard time accepting it. Being wet is no fun, but I realized it isn't going to change soon. It's tough coming to terms with it.

My childhood upbringing and the general way I perceived society made the whole issue MUCH worse than it really is. After coming to terms a little with the problem and opening up to my inner circle of loved ones and close friends I came to realize that it's not the end of the world. They were all like, "huh, that's too bad, so what's new and interesting". There was absolutely no judgment and only concern for me. Like I was told when I worked in the factories and got really really dirty, "soap and water is good for that"....lol... I was freaking out and when my wife talked to the doctor he told her "it's really no big deal". It took me time to see this, and yes. It is a hassle. but things could be much much worse. It is embarrassing. But living with it over time makes it less so. The rest of my body is working really great, so I'm thanking my lucky stars that incontinence is my only problem.

There are some solutions to incontinence as it is a symptom to some other problem. If the problem is diagnosed there are often times solutions. Be sure to check with your doctor and see what can be done to correct you issues. In the mean time try not to freak out like I did. That didn't work for at all. :)
