Having a disability and having help changing

Hi there

I have a disability called mild Cearbrel Plasy I have not disclosed this as I am ashamed to have a disability I am looked after by my mum more so now I can walk aided with a walker I can change myself but I am needing more and more help these days my parents are very supportive to me and my issues

I knew a girl in college with CP. She worked at the front desk of my dorm as a work study student. She used a chair and wore diapers. It didn't seem to show her down much.

Thanks I have managed quite well but always had difficultys my parents have always looked after me well I drool as my speech is also effected I get embarrassed and it makes me sad when people look at me

Incontinents, of all people, should understand the embarrassments of disabilities. We also understand the necessary coping strategies, which, from time to time can add to the discrimination that folks in the disabled community feel. I just find it embarrassing being changed by my parents now it's become hard for me to do it on my own now days I tenede to leak and not put the nappy on correctly so my parents has said its better for them to change me what do you think I need to stop worrying about to make the experience quicker and me not embarrassed

I'm assuming based on your profile name that you're 34 years old? If that's correct, you probably need to talk to your parents about finding solutions beyond them. They aren't going to be around forever, and if you lack the manual dexterity to change tape on diapers, you probably need to give another product, or look into getting an aid that doesn't leave you solely dependent on your parents for care.

Yes I am 34 years old my parents have been looking into having a care giver for me but haven't found the right one just yet they think it will be nice if I have a Carer to help me with my care needs as I am getting older and needing more support no days thanks for your advice

If your parents have been caring for you since your infancy, continuing to do so may seem natural to them, if not to you. Giving them time off, however, is merely being considerate on your part. Try to discover what assistance is available and discuss it with them. Good luck.
