We weren't flooded ourselves, but we did get trapped by the flooding while traveling yesterday. 4 hour detour to get back on course.
It looked pretty bad across most of Missouri. Lots of houses under water.

Both my husband and I have brothers who live/work in the St. Louis area, as does my husband's aunt. I haven't been able to reach them. St. Louis was particularly hard hit.

Best wishes to your family, Wetters. I hope all are doing ok.

Thanks, PB&J - My brother, brother-in-law, and the wives are ok, but I still haven't made contact with my husband's aunt. She's up there in years, but she's not as old as it would seem. My husband's grandmother married a longtime friend after her first husband died, and had 2 more kids when her oldest ones were in their late teens. My husband's aunt owns and operates a retail establishment in downtown St. Louis. She's something like 75 years old.

Although I join the others in wishing the folks in the flooded areas of the Mississippi watershed the best, my hope is that as many as possible simply move, reestablish their lives away from the floodplain. No amount of human effort or ingenuity can prevent a catastrophe of this magnitude.

Just to be clear. Much of the flooding took place a long way from the Mississippi flood plain. The areas I saw flooded 2 days ago where up to 100+ miles away from river.

Luckily, I have never had my property flooded, but have helped a friend clean up after getting part of their house flooded. What a mess. Best wishes for those affected where ever they are.

Greenbank,
This was the highest water line we have ever seen here. I usually can get my brother house to get them out with our monster truck, but this time it was to the brake pedal so I backed out, went home and got the boat. Water is down and all our safe.

I've been flooded out in the Florida hurricanes before. Oddly, the only dry part on me that was still dry was my diaper. Too bad even that didn't last long. Sadly I believe we are just going to have to get use to this kind of weather now as a result of our global warming.
