Truth or Consequence?

Mon Mar 02, 2015 5:17 pm

"Embrace Change!" A diaper doesn't last forever.

"With incontinence your mother never has to worry if you have on clean underwear or not."

The word "accident" has a whole new meaning when you are new to incontinence.

Most people worry about finding a toilet before they go. People with incontinence worry about finding a toilet after they go.

Diaper manufactures spend millions in marketing diapers that don't look like diapers. People with incontinence don't care what a diaper looks like as long as it works. Between the two, who is in denial here?

What is the definition of a sexy diaper? A diaper that doesn't leak!

I don't see how anybody with total incontinence should ever feel embarrassed. By the time I was done with all the doctor appointments and tests I swear everyone in the world has already seen me in a diaper.

If you are looking for a serious post move along. Nothing to see here.... :D

All very true......I laughed when I got to the part about not being embarrassed. Lots of healthcare folks have seen me in a diaper. At first I was very discreet even at doctors appointments. Now I could care less. (Well, I still am not ready to go out with a neon sign on, but if somebody finds out WTF are they going to do, hate me???) My wife is way more embarrassed and tries to protect me and gets frustrated when I have my "I don't care" attitude in front of healthcare folks. I told a nurse once "I'm wearing a diaper" as she went to move the blankets off me......my wife was horrified......it ended up being a fight because she didn't want the world to know, furthermore, as a nurse herself she didn't want that nurse to "think I was crazy" I said to her, "when you see a patient in a diaper, do you automatically think they're crazy??" I'm managing my problems the best possible way.......in a diaper.....I haven't yet found a better way to keep myself dry and comfortable. If it offends somebody, TOUGH SHIT!!!

Oh yeah, I can definetly relate especially about hte modesty thing.. I used to be so careful about not letting anyone at all see me wearing a diaper.. but then with one of my best friends, who knows about my problem anyway.. I let my hair down.. and don't worry about privacy at all.. we make jokes about the incon..keeps the mood light.. When you are first incontient, you are very self consious about buying your products, about standing in the checkout line with your diapers.. horrified that someone you know will walk in the door and see you. Which is why you buy online by the way... Back when i wasfirst incontinent my dad wasn't exactly discreet about storing my products, with my younger stister around, so I started to loosen up. At this point, whiile i still store products out of sight when friends or family who don't know about the incontiennce problems visit.. if they did find out.. It really wouldn't be that big of a deal.. I realized that after my uncle showed up to help my mom and I clean my apartment.. I didn't want him here at first because I was afraid he might see some of my diapers.. at this point i was in between periods of incontience.. I had started treatement.. and was still dry.. but i still had proteciton around just in case.
As time goes on, you really stop caring who knows and doesnt know to an extent. On the one hand, you don't broadcast it to the world, but you don't hide to the point where someone sees someting you cringe in horror either. If you go about your day in a calm casual, business as usual manner.. youre much less likely to attract attention..even if you have your products in full view on a shelf somewhere.. they may not even notice something.. but what they would notice is you trying to sneak around. Most adults have the decorum not to say a word if they do see something..

Peace out!

At least the sense of humour can be dry....

Today I was reading some ads at our version of craigslist. Under the cathegory for free, a woman had advertised three packages of attends pullups.
I do mot think she knew what she did when she chose the cathegory used...
I called the ad company and told them. They were gasping for air laughing when they saw it.
It was then corrected to new...

OMG - optimist, you certainly know how to make people laugh! IMHO, your comments could also fall under the forum category "incontinence jokes found on the web". Not to mention that you found the "fun" part of being incontinent.

We desperately need to laugh to survive. If we only cry, we would have to diaper our faces too.
No matter how bad things seem to be, I try to find at least one thing that make me smile that day.
If we can laugh of it, it loses some power over us.
Never ever ever give up....
