Injuries to my hands

Sat Mar 23, 2013 7:41 pm

First let me apologise for my poor typing. I have both hands in casts due to injuring them and having subsequent surgury.

This has caused a most difficult time for me being incontinent. I am not able to pin the pins and put on plastic pants or hold a disposable and secure the tapes. Neither can I dress myself. As a result my wife is having to diaper me. She has done this for me several times in the past. Once when I broke my shoulder blade into and several other times.

I have mentioned a long time ago that my wife knew about the problems I have had growing up with incontinence. Believe it or not, my mom had the oddasity to tell her how I had grown up in diapers and plastic pants.! I could not believe it. She said she did not think it was fair for her to notknow before we got serious. I had planned to tell her. I am still more that a bit PO'd at my elderly mom!

When we got married it was a rare thing, usually only at night and then only occassionally. As I aged it has gotten worse and then in 2004 I had a TURP operation on my prostate and it really did me in. Since then I have had no ability to control my bladder day or night and I wear diapers and plastic pants day and night.

Anyway, my wife has been diapering me with night diapers plus and extra diaper before leaving for for her volunteer job. I am not wearing much in the way of clothing during the day do to the bulk of my diapers. We ordered some onesie shirts (with the snap crotch) to help hold them on when they are very wet. I have been wearing a zip up sweatshirt

She works about 45 min from home so can not just run home to change me on her lunch for example. the first day all was well even thought I was quite wet when she got home.

The biggest challenge we have encountered was the 2nd day she left to do her volunteer job after I had the surgury. She had been gone about 3 hours when a terrible urge to go to the bathroom came on me. I could not hold it and consequently filled my diapers! Talk about being mortified!! The rides the handicapped bus as she is blind so could not get home ay sooner as her ride schedule has to be made in advance. It finally dawned on me hours later to call her and have her get a cab home. I was really worked up and dreaded her having to see me like this.
This happened 2 times before shae gave up her volunteer work for now.
As it turned out my fears were undounded. she told me later after I was cleaned up and changed, that I do a lot for her and all of this is part of being married. She has taken leave of doing her volunteer work until I get back to normal.

All I can say is I am a very lucky fellow. Oddly enough, she says she kind of likes diapering me . She says it must be part of her mothering instinct. She actually does it much better than I do. You'd think I would be an expert after having worn diapers for the better part of my almost 64 years.

I am not sure if your looking for help or advice or just updating what is going on with you. First of all I totally understand how it feels to depend on some on else for care and sorry that your injured this way. If you wanted some Ideas on what you could do besides this is if your comfortable with it and after all my surgeries I need help changing cause of pain and unable to move. I had a visiting nurse and other services that came in 3-5 times a day to help it is quite hard to ask for help when you are normally a dependent person luckily for me after a few day I was able to do it mostly myself with little to no help but I also did various other things from wearing multiple diapers and booster to wearing cloth at night. I wish I had a loving wife or even a gf but I don't. i hope this helps and good luck with your recovery

o3jarhead thanks for the note. I was definitely not complaining. I ment it to be a update of where I was. I got the casts off today. I was going to post that when I saw your reply.

I am a Vietnam combat vet and have seen guys with real problems. Seeing some of the issues the young kids coming home today are heartbreaking. I have absolutely nothing to complain about!

Hope you find a soul mate in the near future!

Again, thanks for taking time to write

Terry

As an Army Vet I want to thank you both for you service.

I too an single and know that some day I will meet an angel that will take me for who I am, not run away because of my issues.

I just got home from 3 weeks in the hospital after a surgeon repaired a severed distal bicep tendon. Having to use crutches or a manual wheelchair to get around is tough. Doing it with one arm is almost impossible. I had to swallow my pride and let the nurses change my diapers until I was cleared to use my repaired arm to hold the diaper in place so I could tape with my good arm. It was a blessing having the nurses do it after the first few times. They were both caring and professional.

Glad you got the casts off now. I still have up to 6 more weeks before I can use my repaired arm for anything more than a paperweight.
