curious

I was told by my urologist that I have bladder diverticula. This along with my bladder retenton (200ml. after voiding sometimes more) is causing my urge incontinence. He told me that the only solution was surgical removal of the diverticula, but does not want me to go through with that at this time. I did have green light prostate surgery about 4 years ago. My question is is my urologist right in waiting? I'm 65 yrs. old. Will problems become worse with time? I'm just curious if anyone else has had similar issues, and how they manage. Thanks for any input/advice.

I tried posting this earlier, but don't think it went through.

Hi there, Dennis.

I had a quick check via Google and cam up with this. if you have a good read you will see that the surgery is not that nice and the urologist is probably thinking that if the diverticulae are the result of obstruction of the bladder outlet (guessed from the prostate surgery) then things may still settle down and no action be needed. Surgeons try and avoid surgery if at all possible and especially open abdominal surgery that your diverticulae may well need.

Really, you need to have had a good discussion with the surgeon so that you understand what the disadvantages as well as advantages of the surgery are and the reason he thinks surgery is not needed at this time. of course he may also be concerned at the effect of anaesthesia on you - the risks get more as we get older.

Thanks for the info, Wheels. After researching the details of bladder diverticula surgery, I think I will continue to manage my situation with diapers as needed. Not all that happy about this decision, but seems a better alternative at this time.
