Warning: Please be sure to check drug interactions with your doctor and/or pharmacist. Story: For the last couple weeks, I have dealt with a tooth ache. One of the medications I take causes dry mouth and it effects my teeth. Anyway, I saw my dentist ASAP. It turned out, I had an infection in one of my teeth. I needed a root canal. She gave my Tylenol with codeine for pain. An opioid. I was in pain and I was very close to taking it. Before I did, I called my pharmacist. My dentist isn’t up to speed on the interactions of my medications. This interaction was pretty darn scary. I take other mood stabilizing medications for my behavioral health. One of which I take is a sedative. When mixed with the pain med, and taken before bed, the two drugs together suppress the central nervous system. The patient may slip into a coma and the heart can stop leading to death. My family would have thought I was sleeping. And I was that close. Scary. So always double check the medication your given.
