I live in N.E. Florida right on the coast. This storm is really threatening my family. My wife is a nurse and has to work at the hospital during the storm. It is supposed to be a category 3-4 right off our coast. My kids and I are fleeing to GA about 160 miles inland. My sister and her kids will meet us at a friends house (with our dogs). There will be our two families, our long time friends, and their two daughters who also have kids. I have known these people for 25 years and grew up with them. We fled to their house from Hurricane Mathew as well. Their daughters live in Savannah which may take a direct hit. There will be roughly 16 people in the house weathering the storm. The trouble lies in keeping my incontinence a secret. It may be a futile issue with that many people in the house. I am both bladder and bowel incontinent. The bowel issues generally only present during the day. I am a very heavy wetter. A couple times a week (at night) my diapers leak in my sleep...bad! I use Abena M4 with an abri-let booster. I also have a water proof mattress protector like 36x40in to protect against leaks. I'm still afraid of wetting my friends bed. That would be even more mortifying than someone finding out about my diapers. The diaper issue I could deal with but the thought of ruining someone else's furniture really bothers me. In case your wondering, I have tried more absorbent diapers such as Confidry, but they leaked all over the place. The smalls were too small and the mediums were too big and urine frequently ran down my leg, even with a booster and a PUL cover. So Confidry didn't work at all. The Abena are very dependable for me. So far no diaper has 100% contained my leakage at night. Just venting.

WOW Don

My prayers go out to you and your families,
I've been watching the hurricanes and the devastation from them is unbelievable.
I sure hope that people get out of the path of them.
I'm real glad to hear that you have an evacuation plan ready.

I wouldn't worry too much about your incon, it sounds like you will be with a great group of people and family.
Just explain it to them if they inquire.

Schoppy

Managing double incontinence under such trying conditions promises to be a challenge. You'll need to pack a large inventory of diapers, and you may not have a choice about coming out publicly about your incontinence. Irma promises to be a record-setter, so I hope that you will be far enough away from it for safety, and I hope that you will have a home to return to when this passes.

good luck...looks like this is going to be totally catastrophic. Glad you're being smart and getting out. Anyone who stays is asking for it.

Track is changing constantly it seems but here it looks like it's going to just totally smash florida, rather than skirt the coast.

Don, I hope you and your family get through the storm safely. IMO, you need to supply a waterproof mattress cover for the bed you'll be sleeping in. I don't see any other way to be absolutely sure that the mattress won't get ruined. I would give your host a heads-up that some of the meds you take cause you to have night wettings (if that's true, otherwise just be honest about your tendency toward wet nights). Explain that you proactively manage your condition, but you want to make sure that the bed stays dry. GoodNites disposable surface bed pads work quite well and I would buy a pack, but because you claim to be a heavy wetter, I wouldn't rely on them as a gatekeeper for protecting the mattress.

It looks like the track has shifted. It's gonna go straight through the state of FL. I feel really bad for the people in the southern part of the state. I heard roughly 16 million people are headed north via I-95/I-75. The roads are jam packed. I did safely make it to our friends house with my family. I brought a pkg of abri-let boosters and a box of M-4's. I do have a large mattress protector. I'm just hoping all goes well. We'll see.

this is a difficult situation. It might be better to confide and some of the family members about what is going on. They will be able to distract others as you are taking of your business. Glad to hear you sought safety from the storm, it looks like it is going to be a bad one. stay safe.

Don,

I will be thinking of you and your family. I hope your wife stays safe at work. I understand managing incontinence and stress can be a terrible combination, especially in such close quarters.

Yeah, that's very sad. I'm praying as well so everyone can be safe. Hurricanes are terrible thing and more people should be aware of destruction they can bring - nobody want to through this and as they are happening quite often, this is something that people should be prepared for. So, I'm also wondering why Americans do build their houses from "paper", especially in states that are vulnerable to hurricanes like that? If you did solid construction, then it would have been much easier to later fix the damage - which would be few times lesser anyway.

The houses are built very well here not sure where you are located but is almost impossible to build a house that will stand up to 130 mph+ winds
