Hey all,

I went ahead and scheduled a urology appointment, after debating with myself whether i wanted to go through it all again, and i realized that if it is a urinary tract infection, then it would be in my best interest to get it cleared out. However, if its not.. i'm not sure what the next step will be. I have not yet decided whether id try the biofeedback again, since it only got me dry for a month. However, i probably will since its possible that part of the reason why it didnt last long was i wasnt doing the excersices. I will discuss this with the urologist and see what she says. Now that im only working part time, I might have more time to do the regimen. But, its possible that the incontence is triggered by unresolved stress..and if that is the case, i might not be able to reverse it with biofeedback. I don't know. We will see. Part of me wants to try one more time, part of me wants to say.. ok you tried it, now youre still incon..just wear protection and get on with your life...

In other news, i now finally have a bag of extended wear briefs... the Superio brief from wellness.. should serve me well toimorrow
since im reporting for jury duty and dont know when the breaks will be and whether or not im selected... I knew i needed something that willl last a long time, and yet is discreet.

I still am pretty calm over the situation, not stressing out like i did before... and im past the guilt over not doing my pt regimen..i figure i did the best i could do under the circumstances..and now my circumstances have changed, so it might work better this time. Problem is, after biofeedback i dont have any other options that i can see other than living with it.

Peace out!

Rob

From my experience with Jury Duty is that if you are waiting to be called, there is usually easy access to a restroom. It only gets dicy in the selection process. You don't get to just get up and walk out at will when in the courtroom. And if you are selected for the jury, the entire trial process has to be put on hold for a break of the jury. And that is a process. So, I'm hoping you just sit around and never get selected. That would be best for you. Also, bringing in spare diapers in a bag will be checked at least on x-ray screening on your way into the courthouse. Althought that is not much different than going through TSA in the airport.

As far as going for the testing and the biofeedback or just living with it, that is up to you and your comfort level. Do you feel like you want to go through it again for the chance of improvement or do you just feel like giving up and giving in. There are pro's and con's on both sides. And only you can make the right decision for your life and your body.

Good luck whichever road you choose.

As far as jury duty, call your doctor and ask to speak to his nurse or assistant. Explain to them you need a note saying you are under their care for a bladder condition that will require restroom breaks. You get there and give that note to one of the attorneys, and I am sure they will just cut you loose.

Heh.. no worries.. was excused... and i made it to the bathoom while there.. so.. protection was unused while there... and as we all know.. the most comfortable diaper is a dry one LOL...now, the real interesting scenario will be dealing with this while subsitute teaching.. since I CANNOT leave a classroom unattended and I would NOT feel comfortable changing a diaper at the school..and normalyl would only get a half hour for lunch. Sure, i could stick spares in my bag, and change at the school..but where would i discreetly dispose of a used diaper..and leaving it in the bathroom all day would make it smell..just would rather avoid that situation altoghether...

Im actually impressed with the wellness superio.. because i had one on last night and even after i wet a few times.. it felt completly dry to the touch...only when it was closer to saturation level did i actually feel wet... anyone else have experince with this brief?

Surely if you have a bag with a spare diaper you could wrap the old one in a couple of plastic bags and put it back in the bag to dispose of later. That's what I used to do.

Which is EXACTLY what I ended up doing when i subbed 3rd grade with a half hour lunchbreak... I had a wellness superio on..but still felt more comfotable changing at lunch rather than sitting all day in my urine...hmm..maybe i need to try baby powder or oil to offset odor? Of corse, then id smell like a baby.. maybe gold bond would work? Any thoughts would be appreciated.. what do you all use for addtional odor control while using extended wear??????

I use powder and cream for skin protection, but I don't think it does anything for odor. All diapers are not created equal for odor control. I have the best odor containment (urine only) with high-SAP products that have a plastic back sheet. Secure X-Plus, Tena Slip Maxi, Northshore Supreme, Wellness Superio all seem to have good odor control. Abena products, especially the breathable cloth back versions, don't seem to control odor as effectively.

One of the bigger tools in odor management is simply making sure you stay sufficiently hydrated. Highly concentrated (dark) urine will smell malodorous a lot sooner than pale yellow to nearly clear urine. Of course it is a balancing act of drinking enough but not so much that a premium diaper is used in only a couple hours.

I tend to change during lunch time at work, so I'm in the same (extended wear) diaper at most 4-5 hours. I am also careful to stay hydrated, but a big part of that is just trying to keep my recurring UTI's at bay. I don't have odor issues that I am aware of or have ever been told about.

I use A&D Rash cream every day to prevent it. I do not use powder as for some reason I find it prevents the diaper from doing its job and causes leaks. Proper hydration, avoiding coffee and asparagus are really all I have ever needed to avoid smells.

What do you wear while teaching? I have found that dark pants, suspenders (optional), and a loose fitting blazer do the trick of covering up the tell-tale diaper butt and also hiding the bulge in front. This also has the added benefit of making one look more professional and serious on the job. In a relaxed atmosphere I will wear jeans, a long button down shirt and a loose sweater that covers my butt and front decently. Given I wear comfidrys, and used to use abena m4s I am used to wearing the bulk of extended wear and only once have I been noticed in over 10 years. If that still is not enough, adding a booster might help.

It is a never ending learning game with this of finding what works and what doesn't....
