I just finished having made a half dozen flat cloth diapers. I'm thinking seriously of going cloth during the day at work, but I need a thinner diaper that I can change with out taking my pants off to change(which I would have to do with pull-ups).

After spending about $40.00 at the fabric store for some quality flannel, I have a 24" by 32" flat diaper with a double panel in the middle. After cutting them out to the size I needed made, I ended up with enough scrap material to make 6 diaper doublers.

So, for $40.00, I got 6 diapers and 6 diaper doublers. I plan on trying these out this week. I got a close friend who has a new sewing machine to do them for free. What a deal!!!! ...........Paul Martin

Hi Paul, I am somewaht new to using cloth. I find it much better for at home and have started wearing more out and about. I was wonderfuling how wearing cloth at work worked out for you? The cost is high on cloth so I too have been sewing my own using flannel diaper fabric. However I ssem to keep making them bulky for work. I normally double the flannel and sew in a three layer terry cloth soaker in addition to adding two pre-fold baby diapers that seems great to get me through the entire day. I was worried about changing at work at is why I wanted thicker. Would you suggest lighter and chnging once during work? With the pin on I avoid having to take my pants off. There is a good cost saving sewing one own diapers.
What do you find to be the best plastic or vinyl pants for over top? THe ployster coated one you find at medical supply stores seem to allow wetness to come through. Thanks and take care

I posted that message last July and I've used these a lot since then. I don't use these a lot at work, but I've used them alot a home.
The way I had them made was the outer front/back were made of standard flannel with two baby pre-folded diapers sewn in between. They are not bulky and you would have to look hard to tell I had one on.
When I use them at work, they last about 3 to 4 hours between changes.
I like to use low rise plastic pants that I found at Babykins. They work well at home since when I bend over, they're not showing.
My biggest problem at work is having to keep up with them at the office to take home each night to wash. I found a way to do it, though. You know the saying, "if there's a will, there's a way."
I'm very pleased with these diapers. They have been through about 20 washings and they keep getting softer. Thanks for your interest! .....Paul Martin

Hey Paul to bad you are so far away we could put you together with my young friend. She is getting into cloth big time you will be happy to know :D After all that time you spent with me it actually rubbed off on her through me. She has been making her own pull ups and has made a few snap on's She to has been using alot of flannel because it's easy to get. But also she has been buying the flat Gerber diapers and incorporating them as well into her designs. Jane and I were over there a few weeks ago. She modeled a couple for us :roll: They look real good on her (then anything looks good on her :roll: ) I've been telling Jane that she should use cloth but she still isn't interested. She's like me she doesn't like the idea of the laundry. But I told her you should at least try it out at least at night. She said well why aren't you :?: Ya well you know :? I still do from time to time but I just like the fact I can throw it away and not deal with it later. She's a disposable wearer for now and she won't budge :? ......................Sandy :)

I browse the boards often and offer what advice I can. I for the last two years, exclusively use cloth at night. I haven't had a wet bed in months. It took a little while to figure out the right set up for my needs, but afterwords, I can tell you that haveing a dry bed, a full nights sleep, and not flooding out my spouse, life at night has been almost like before I became Incon. Buying cloth diapers is very expensive, and I was dissapointed with the quality, the size, the absorbancy, so I started to make my own. The first ones didn't turn out so well, but after some tinkering I finally have the perfect set up for day use (conture style W/plently of rearend room) and night time ones (flat fold W/extra booster diapers) that allows me to not dehydrate myself before going to bed. I do offer my skills on ebay every once in a while (busy work) its not a business, it is for people like me who want a diaper that lasts for a long time, comfortable, absorbant, and fits right.

I have a few adult-sized cloth diapers... some pull-on some velcro. I keep pondering asking my gf to copy the designs with her sewing machine but I don't know. I'm still a big fan of disposables b/c they do a better job at controlling odor and wetness IMO.

Sounds like your young friend is really getting into her designs. She's the one who was making the bathing suit lined diaper?
I just like plain flat diapers. My secret to getting them made right was to prewash the material first. They really shrink the first wash.
I have a couple of those contour diapers and the pull-ups style, but they do take longer to dry. Your flat style dry really fast.
My only problem, which was minor, was buying such a large amount of flannel at the fabric store. The lady cutting it just had to ask what I was doing with all that flannel. I wasn't embarrased so I told her diapers! She asked how many I got out of that much material. I told her close to a dozen. She just winked at me and smiled. I guess she knew they were for an adult. ...............Paul Martin

No my husband and I own a marine repair shop Boats Outboards inboards etc. For Diapers I work Ebay :lol: I get most of my diapers off Ebay and also buy for Jane and my "young friend" and once in a great while an old friend of mine Tammy. I've been told I should have a diapers store :roll: I think they said I should call it Sandy's Diaper Connection :lol: No I spend a fair amount of time watching Ebay for deals and let me tell you . A person can get some screaming deals on Ebay if your patient. But it does often take sometime to find them :wink:

Ah... okay... boats, I get it. I worked at a marina for two years while I was in high school... working the docks, pumping gas, wash/wax/detail, minor repairs. It was fun work... but very very warm. Thankfully I could wear my bathing suit when I was out on the docks so it didn't matter if I was wet or not.

With the amount of advise you post on here about diapers I figured you worked at some kind of incontinence supply store. I would apply for a job at one myself but there aren't any big ones around my area. After all, who better to sell the products than a person who uses them too.

I do a good amount of looking on both craigslist and e-bay for diaper deals. Sometimes you find some good ones, sometimes not. There is a ton of AB/DL crap to sort through on e-bay now-a-days though. Speaking of deals... I'm going tomorrow to a city about 2 hours away to pick up some Attends from a lady on craigslist. She has 6 full bags and two half-full bags that I'm buying for $60. Even with the gas it'll be cheaper than buying a case... and a road trip is always something fun to do. I love driving, and one good thing about diapers is no need for restroom stops. LOL
