Disposables or cloth diapers? And why?

For Paul Martin

Paul,
I missed a couple of things. You said you have Adult Cloth Diaper plastic pants. They are Gary pants, so you can see for sure what I am saying about Gary pants. Nice vinyl, nice cut, good wide crotch. The elastics are typically a 3/4" wide elastic band folded over the edge of the vinyl and sewn, making a "cuff" band about 3/8" wide. Their elastic is not very soft to the touch and they typically have too tight a waist band for size-I've been down that road already.

When you get your BabyKins pants you will experience Lycra leg and waist bands which are much more comfortable, IMO.

You asked about colors. I got out my ACD blue plastic pants and my BabyKins blue and the ACD are a much lighter blue (and have embossed little stars if you look close). My BabyKins pants are a darker blue but still both colors are translucent, you can see your hand inside either pant.

The other thing is bleeding of color!

YES! I'd say expect it with any new cloth print. I got the same thing with the BabyKins print diaper. I did wear a plain white plastic pant which now has color splotches inside it.

So a word of caution for anyone trying a printed diaper or diaper pant, even if you wash it first (as you should do anyway) it will most likely still bleed some color onto your plastic pants so use older plastic pants until the print diaper has been laundered a few times and the dyes have set.

Cloth todler boosters

Fri Oct 12, 2007 8:05 am

Sandy,
Glad to hear you received the cloth diapers and you got started so quickly. Last night, wearing my cloth diaper, I woke up this morning and the entire diaper was wet(or really pretty damp) from front to back. Wicking to the test! As Joe and I've already said, the best thing with cloth diapers is the wicking. Last night if I were wearing a disposable, I would have for sure leaked. Some nights my diaper is not wet from front to back which means I didn't wet as bad that night. I'm going to order some of the babykin plastic pants today and see if Joe's claim is true(I don't doubt him, but want to see for myself).
Also, Sandy, Joe has a good suggestion on joining the other site. It's run differently from this style of forum, but I think I have the hang of it. I have noticed just recently that 3 or 4 women have joined. They are active in their post too. Like Joe said in his post, I'm never going to leave this board. I've made new friends with a lot of people here. But do try to check it out as Joe has suggested.
I'm really eager to see you try some cloth diapers at night, or day. Joe and I will keep watching for your post. ....................Paul

Joe's Babykins plastic pants

Fri Oct 12, 2007 8:18 am

Joe,
Thanks for all your suggestions on the babykins plastic pants. I placed my order by phone since I wanted to send a money order rather than use my credit card. I just ordered one pair of the three or four you noted for now to see which one I like best. About the only print I ever order is the Babies print. All my others are just solid colors.
I suggested to Sandy also to check out this other site we are both members of. I love that last name you chose. Where in the world did you come up with that? I've always liked Kadidlehopper, but thought most people will just laugh when I try to tell them how to spell it. Sandy would have a lot of females to talk to since not many here post.
Anyways, Joe, thanks again. ......................Paul

Dating yourself

Fri Oct 12, 2007 10:34 pm

Joek your not dating yourself your dating both of us  I remember that very well and it really doesn't seem that long ago. As I remember bud got the idea from the song "on Wisconsin" from the Wisconsin Badgers. it sounds the same bud just changed the words. My parents were both graduates of Wisconsin and die hard badger fans and I also have a relative who the university named a study building something or other after. So yes I remember that well being from a bunch of badger nut cases  .................Sandy

The Jed look

Sat Oct 13, 2007 10:16 am

Well I got my overalls on I'm going out for the better part of the day. I just saw my husband he smiled and said howdy Jed  I'm wearing a Tena with two cloth boosters in it. I put one more up the front and one more up the back. Only thing I'm worried about is if they will tend to slide around in the brief, I got the brief as tight as I can get it. and put on a pair of panties over it. So here it goes. BTW The other night that brief with the two cloth boosters went way beyond the call of duty. I went around 7 and a 1/2 hours before I leaked. Wow! Most of the time those briefs are only good for about 3-4 hours maybe 5 but that's usually risky. I'm going to get some cloth diapers coming my way as soon as I get a chance. If using a couple of cloth diapers as boosters work this well I got to get a full cloth brief. I still would rather not have to deal with the laundry. but I will try and get over that...............Sandy

Yesterday

Sun Oct 14, 2007 11:01 am

Well the Jed look went OK yesterday. I lasted about 6 hours before having to go to the van and change. Both of the boosters did move a little the back one settled down a little but with coveralls I don't think it was noticeable. So far the only thing I don't like is that when I'm wet I know it. I wore a super plus Molicare to bed last night woke up this morning and the brief was fairly wet but I felt fairly dry. So yes to me that is a draw back with the cloth. But as far as the extra bulk I don't see it as a problem if you dress for it.
My young friend is trying them out also. I doubt she will go out in public with them. but then again the way that young girl has changed in the last few months anything is possible with her. I was telling her that thing I believe it was Paul mentioned about laying in the sun next year with bikini cut plastic pants and these booster pads inside the plastic pants might work for her next summer. She thought that maybe a good idea to try it.
All for now.............Sandy

Cloth diaper and a wet feeling?

Mon Oct 15, 2007 9:33 am

Sandy,
Sounds like you're giving those cloth diaper inserts a real test. I guess you're right about a wet feeling with the cloth diapers. It is something I have noticed, but it really does not bother me. I sorta get the same feeling with disposables, but they're suppose to have a layer of protection. Anyway I look at it, you're still going to be exposed to a diaper rash if you don't change often enough.
I wear cloth pull-ups on the weekends and even when my wife and I go out. If it's more than 4 hours, though, I'll go with a disposable. I don't really want to carry a diaper bag around to change some where and bring back a wet cloth diaper. Anyways, I hope this won't change your mind about trying cloth diapers at night. .................Paul(Martin)

Stinking Yahoo

Tue Oct 16, 2007 12:39 am

Well I tried to get on Yahoo and sign up to become a member I did after an hour of screwing around :x . Then went back to my Email confirmed everything. Went back and found the site that JoeK was talking about. Registered with the group. This was all this morning. Mind you my husband had an account with them but he never uses it I tried to access Yahoo that way and couldn't get on :x . Now I just tried to get on with my new account tonight and I can't get on. I wrote everything out followed it to the tee and can not get on  Then I tried the forgot my password bit. only to get something telling me that it is unable to process my request. I had this before with them. People say AOL is a pain and I would agree with them. But in my opinion YAHOO is the worst! so as far as getting on that other board. SCREW IT!! Send my regards  to Yahoo I'm staying right here!!.................Sandy

Yahoo Group

Tue Oct 16, 2007 7:42 am

Sandy,
I'm sorry to hear the frustrations you had trying to get on that group. It's not near as easy as this site, but once you are on, it's OK. Joe K, who helps on that site, would probably walk you through trying to get signed up. That site has a lot of activity. I wish it was a little simplier to understand how it works. Joe, you need to help Sandy out here if you can. And Sandy, don't worry about me not posting on this site. I check the other site quite often, but I check this site just as much. I really like the simplisity of this site and how it's laid out.
One thing, though, Schoppy needs to clear out some members. I see many, many spammers how have joined. Keep in touch, Sandy!

Wet feeling with cloth diapers

Tue Oct 16, 2007 7:56 am

Sandy,
A follow up to your comment on the "wet feeling" with the cloth booster you're trying.
Last night when I diapered myself before bedtime, I made a mental note to notice if I really had a wet feeling while wearing my cloth diaper. I was diaperd by 8 PM, and as I went to bed around 10 PM, I didn't feel wet, but I did check inside my plastic pants and noticed my diaper was damp form a wetting. I really couldn't feel any wetness. During the night I woke up once and checked my diaper, and I noted I was considerably wetter, but I still couldn't feel it. I could touch the outside of my plastic pants and could tell my diaper was wet. When I woke up this morning, my diaper was completely wet, but really only a wet/damp feeling(no wet feeling, though).
I really believe you won't feel a wet feeling unless your diaper is completely soaked(sorta like sopping wet).
Sandy, as you use the diaper insert as a booster, you'll probably note the wetness agiainest you skin since it is completely soaked. If you wear only a cloth diaper, the wicking of the diaper should prevent that feeling not unless you're completely soaked.
Anyways, That's my opinion. ......................Paul(Martin)
