Sandy,
I'm exactly the opposite. I feel the only thing of disposables are their convinence to throw away. I look forward to the weekends when I wear cloth all weekend. But the feeling is even greater at night. I feel super protected with a cloth diaper on and the comfort to me is nothing like a disposable. I guess I could live with disposables during the day only, but if I had to give them up at night, I would probably cry like a baby, well not really, but I wouldn't like it.

I really would like to hear from other members on how they feel between the two types. That sounds like a good new thread! .........Paul Martin

I'd forgotten about this, but I lived in a more urban setting 15 years ago and used a diaper service! They would wash my adult cloth diapers for me and come twice a week. I wore Babykins brand prefolds made of cotton flannel with 6 layers in the center.
The diaper service was cool, I might have been their only adult customer. They normally provided their own baby diapers - some of which made it into my order upon return ( I still have 'em and use 'em). Our arrangement was that I would supply the diapers and they would wash 'em.
I live in a rural area where that is no longer available and after some time switched to disposables - the constant laundry was a pain in the ass and hard on the machines. I got some flat diapers which will dry in one cycle, but still use disposables. Anyhow, for those with access to a diaper service, screw up your courage and call them if you want less fuss and bother. Ah, the days, I remember them, well, vaguely.

Great posts from both Sandy and Paul M!

Experiencing a poor diaper, be it cloth or disposable, certainly can have a lasting effect on one's perception of performance.

As you folks have pointed out, and as we all pretty much know, a cheap disposable is a joke and a waste of money. If one never experiences a good disposable, they would be inclined to think disposable diapers are all pretty much useless and that is so wrong these days.

Interesting twist about cloth getting a bad rap, but inadequate cloth diapering is going to leak, no question. My fear about anyone trying cloth is they will tend to "under do it" since cloth is bulky. They will wear inadequate cloth protection, it leaks and then they condem cloth diapers as pretty much useless. It can be hard to convince them to wear adequate cloth. In the Primer we try to stress that folks start off "heavy" and put up with the bulk and see now nice it is to be secure from leaks. And then, slowly decrease the layers for a thinner diaper while expecting leaks can occur. Most will be pleasantly surprised at how they can lighten up and still not leak...but better to go that route than start too light and leak and give up on cloth.

On to plastic pants and Paul M and Sandy. I wish I was on the pay roll for Babykins, the way I promote them, but I am not! I am simply finding Babykins plastic pants to be superior. After wearing Gary pants for a long time and Comco pants before discovering the German Suprima pants, I thought the Suprima's were the ultimate. Better (IMO) than Gary with it's aggressive leg and waist bands, and Comco with it's poor "cut" leaving diaper sticking out at times, Suprima has a great vinyl and a large choice of colors and leg and waist band options. They have always had a no wick encased elastic as an option for many of their pants.

Babykins always had elastics that were supurbly comfortable-which is of utmost importance to me. But back a ways, they only offered a very light vinyl which is a real nice pant (#10300V)-and one I feel Sandy would just love! It's just the light vinyl does not hold up, won't last very long-I'd say perhaps a dozen wear and wash cycles and the crotch at the legs is stiffening up.

Then Babykins introduced a heavy vinyl pant (#20300V) and it became my primary plastic pants with only one small problem. the luxurious leg and waist bands can and do wick wetness. this results in wet spots on the sheets overnight and meant I had to wear a Suprima pant to bed for its no wick elastics.

Well, now Babykins has just introduced the pant in a wrapped / encased elastic and I just orderd mine. I expect they will be super!

So now, Paul, you were going to give Babykins a try to add your evaluation to mine about the differences in the basic pants: Gary, Comco, Suprima and Babykins. BTW, the pants at ACD are Gary pants. Let me repeat for those who don't know...you won't find a Gary lable on plastic pants. Gary only makes pants for other companies, most notably ACD and Plastic-pants.com. I think it's safe to say the majority of websites selling plastic pants out there are selling Gary pants.

Paul, we should revive our cloth "Velco-on" evaluation. I've been impressed with my Kins diaper and you've been impressed with your Indisposables diaper. The "Velcro-on" is pretty much as simple as taping on a disposable, and the protection afforded is about that of a mid line disposable, so it should appeal to a disposable fan wanting to try cloth and not turned off by diaper laundry.

My Velcro is still holding the diaper on well after 10 laundry cycles. If I wore it more, it'd speed up the laundry evaluation, but I'm limited to when I can wear the reduced protection afforded.

Just wanted you all to know that after many washings my cloth diapers are holding up very well. I did notice that they seem to have more fluff in them after a few washes.....................Sandy

I received my first order of the babykins platic pants. I have yet to try them, but I will probably this week.
Strange thing, though, I've been buying so many different brands lately, I think I have two dozen pairs of plastic pants in my stock so far! I need to slow down a little. They last about 8 to 12 months, so I have a bunch to use.

Paul's note f a laundry service for adult diapers would really be nice! I really wish these services would look into expanding there service areas.

Sandy, your note on your diapers getting fluffier is so true! Along with the fluff they get softer too. That's one of the better things of cloth. They are so comfy to wear. ...................Paul Martin

Hi Paul Martin,
I got an error message as did Joe Marty....so I just ignored it. Hopefully that post went up anyway.

Great, Paul, what did you get? Hopefully the midweight pants, 6 mil with the super soft lycra leg and waist bands. They will stand up for close to a year. Be a bit careful overnight if your diaper gets "real" wet. The lycra leg bands will wick wetness onto the sheets if they are in contact with a really wet diaper inside. I often have that problem so I usually wear those plastic pants just during the day, choosing no-wick encased elastics offered by Suprima. But I think I already mentioned Babykins is now offering no wick encased elastics with the 6 mil pants and I immediately ordered them.

I got a chuckle out of your "stock" of plastic pants. Due to my experimenting and my problems with overly tight elastics, I've got more plastic pants than I could wear in a life time. and most will never be worn for one reason or another. But there's no way to get rid of them other than to toss and I hate to toss out "good / serviceable" stuff! Oh, well!

I got another cloth diaper with the Velcro the other day I'm wearing it for the first time today. This one does not seem to be the same quality as the others :( The other ones are doubled stitched all the way around the Velcro were as this one looks like they didn't use any more stitching then they had to. I only gave $13.52 with the shipping. So I thought I would give it a try :? it does seem to fit well :?: By the way I bought some more plastic panties I got one pair of bikini ones I'm not sure what the sense in that has :?: the won't work with any of my cloth diapers I have right now. Actually while we are on the subject what kind of diaper works with these things. I kinda just bought them to razz my husband :P

Sandy,
I guess the old saying,"You get what you pay for" applies here. That really is a cheap price for a velcro diaper.
I really think those bikini plastic panties are really for girls who want to have some fun with their boyfriend/husband. They are pretty skimpy from what I've seen on their sites. A pin on diaper just won't work. I think the best bet is to use a pull-on diaper that's not too thick. You can slip the diaper down your hip to fit within the plastic panty. I guess a person who had light incontinence coluld use the bikini fit with no problem.
I really think these are sold for the female to tease their husband as you said. I think that's great! Why not have a little fun with your mate! It makes a hassle of diaper wearing fun!.Have fun, Sandy! .........Paul Martin

Well that cheap Velcro brief is comfortable and it seems to have soften up a fair amount after I washed it a few times. The Velcro is strong the way it grips but I try to be careful when pulling it apart. I was thinking maybe I could get my young friend to reinforce it with her sewing machine :?: Also I found some cloth strap on or belted briefs they would probably work with those bikini plastic pants. that maybe what was intended to be used with them to start with  I'm a little worried how much protection they will offer but around the house to razz my husband would probably be OK :P ..................................Sandy

Yeah, I think you're right Sandy about those bikini plastic pants. I wouldn't reley on that combination for a lot of protection. I really think they were made for women with very lighrt incontinence or someone who wants to "razz" their husband like you said. I wonder how many other women who are incontinent razz their hubbies or boyfriends with that type diaper. I think it's great people can have a lighter side of their incontinence. ........Paul Martin
