TSA pat down

Thu Mar 31, 2022 8:05 am

Well, I knew sooner or later I would be singled out for a security pat down. On a recent flight to Seattle, going through the security scanner they noticed that something was unusual. I showed them my TSA disability card indicating that I was incontinent and was wearing a diaper. The officer asked if it would be ok for him to check me, and explained how he would do it. I agreed. It was very thorough, but not awful. This was at the Chicago Midway airport. On the way back, the same thing happened. This time I was asked if I wanted a private screening. I asked if the exam would be discreet, and he assured me it would be. I guess it was, but I kind of wish I would have asked for a private place for the pat down. It was obvious to those around what he was doing. It involves moving his hands around my waist, legs, buttocks, and crotch. At the end, he had to check his gloves to see that they had not picked up any sense of an unknown substance. So, I wish I could have avoided the whole experience, but understand why it's done. In both instances, the attendants were very understanding. They were just doing their job. I hate these damn diapers!

On positive note, pacemakers are no longer affected by the scanner.

I get the pat down no matter what every time I fly due to my Prosthetic. I've had good and bad experiences

I had a terrible experience with the TSA a couple years ago, they insisted on me dropping my pants to verify that I was actually wearing a diaper. It was an Abena Abri-Flex M1 pullup, a lot thinner than most of you use.

I typed up the story just now, but I decided I should reach out to TSA first. I may tell it all here later. It was pretty traumatic for me, and I have been afraid to fly since.
