gapping at the legs with flats?

Ok, so im coming into my own with flats.. Im getting more confident in putting them on.. but one thing I keep running into when wearing a single flat is no matter how many times I try to create a tight leg band or jelly roll the legs, I have gaps at my legs with a flat. Is this a big deal? Would the diaper cover create all the seal I need?

I have tried a four pin setup; however, I was never able to make it work. If you wear a good, reliable overpant, that should be enough. Trial and error - lots of errors - seems to be necessary for me.
