Does anyone have experience (good or bad) with using a Microfiber cloth as an over-the-diaper-pad, or a stuffer, as opposed to using one made of cotton? I'm a side sleeper and right now I use a small folded 100% cotton (flour sack) cloth between my diaper and PUL pants at night to catch any small leaks that get by my diaper. So far this "system" has worked perfectly for me and has caught the few leaks I've had. However the cotton cloth is a bit bulky and I was wondering if a thinner microfiber cloth might work as well. I don't wet at night very often but I thought I might try to make my nighttime protection a bit more comfortable.

Microfiber may not be the correct fabric for your purpose. Microfiber is used as a "stay dry" layer in some modern cloth diapers for infants as it allows urine to pass through to more absorbent layers in a cloth diaper and does not itself absorb and hold the liquid. Thus it keeps the skin feeling dry. Microfiber usually is not used by itself, but in combination with multiple layers of other fabrics such as cotton, Zorb, bamboo, and hemp.

Thanks for the info. I guess I was think of the cloths I'd seen in commercials that show a washcloth sized piece of fabric soaking up a huge amount of liquid and then being squeezed out again into a large bowl. I thought that was microfiber but I wasn't sure at all. It just occurred to me that that material might be really good for use as a stuffer or overpaid.

I think JD is confusing microfleece with absorbent microfiber cloths.

No, a layer of micro fleece is commonly used as one of several layers of different fabrics in many modern cloth diapers for infants. It often is referred to as the "stay-dry" layer. It often is used by those who sew their own baby diapers. See the link below from a diaper sewing site:

It seems that Microfiber is used as an insert as it does absorb fluid very quickly but, as the link above points out, it also loses it very quickly and easily when compressed. Obviously some of the comments (made below the main article) do like it as a stuffer so it may be useful in certain situations. I guess as always I just have to try it out and see if it works for me.

My son's cloth diapers have all microfiber inserts.
