Hey all,
While I am pretty comfortable using diapers for my day to day incontinence managment, it never hurts to occasionally consider other external management options.. I have come to the conclusion that i probably would not want to use a condom catheter or men's liberty due to the fact that both require a level of dexerity, and both require the skin to be dried out in order for them to be applied.. I'm not sure i like the idea of drying out my skin deliberately.. So, what i'm wondering is.. has anyone tried the afex system? I found i online and it seems to be simpler than the mcguire urinal.. but what I'm wondering is.. can the penis slip out of the receptacle at the worst time causing leaks? what happens if an erection occurs? Sorry for the graphic detail, but this is a reality for most men who are still in their years of vitality..

Id like to hear from anyone who has used id.. pros and cons.. and does your insurance cover it? what is the copay? I have Tricare Standard and Medicaid.

Much appreciated Puffy! Like i said, I'm content to mainly use diapers as that is what i'm most familiar with.. but, as we all know, there are times where its necessary to air out... and a system such as this could be a way to do that. The one major downside would seem to be cost. One website I saw listed the starter kit at 110 dollars or so, another 76... and ive read/heard different things about insurance coverage..

I do have to wonder about VA and Medicare coverage for Afex and also Men's Liberty. I know that Men's Liberty is covered by the VA only if incontinence is the result of something that happened while serving active duty.

Medicare states that NO incontinence products are covered.

I will call Afex and see why they feel that Medicare will cover their product.

Hey, I have tricare prime for disabled retirees. This was years ago, but I was able to get a supply of condom catheters through tricare (not diapers though). Personally I did not like them at all. They stick to your skin, but that stick failed on me way too often. I found this is even more so the more often you get an arousal of any kind- which also makes them very uncomfortable to say the least. When they did fail, they always seemed to fail catastrophically too. In addition to the condom catheter you will also need a leg bag to contain the pee. I have also found leg bags to be much less comfortable than even a wet diaper too, since their elastic bands always dug into my leg and the bag would still slide down on me too. That's just me though, your mileage may vary.
