Hey all,
I got my order from ACD..FINally. and it seemed that the medium prefold was a bit snug. If i didn't fold it, it fit just so, but ifi tried to fold it in the middle, there wasnt't pinning room at the wings. Is it necessary to get the most absorbency out of a prefold to fold it some whay doubling up the middle? If not, i guess the medium size will work just fine. At the very least, ifi find the gauze prefold is too small ,it will act as a doubler.. and it is something i can put in the wash with my pocket diapers so i can wash them without towels. I noticed that washing my pocket diapers with towels tends to get littel red things on the inserts, and they seem to be stiffer..

Anywhoo..advice would be appreciated!

Peace out!
Rob

Medium pre-folds from ACD work well for me. However, you may need the large size in order to maximize fit and absorbency for your needs. Trial and error, sometimes lots of error, may be necessary.

Good luck, and report back when you can.

Hi Patrick,

What i mean to say is is a prefold meant to be folded down the center always? Or is that only done if without doing so the diaper doesnt fitor is too long? I did wear my ACD gauze prefold along with my baby pants prefold just to see how they worked, and whetehr the "wet" feeling you get from cloth would be a turnoff. To my surpise, It wasn't until the diaper got wetter that i tended to notice that I could probably stnd to change. Now, I did feel wet once the diaper was wet, but it wasn't as uncomfortable as say my underwear being wet. It appears that I may have found a solution for my morning deluges without having to use premium disposables. I plan on acquiring more prefolds when funds permit. Both plastic pants seem to seal well around the legs, athough large does seem a bit biig and poofy on me. I was going by their size recommendations, where it said that a medium best fit a 34 waist, and a large best fit a 39 waist. Since im somewhere between a 37 and a 38 depending on how tight i hold the measuring tape, i figure id err on the size of large.

I guess the bottom line is cloth isn't as bad as i thougt it would be generally speaking. Hopefully soon ACD will have the gauze contours back in stock and I can try those.

Peace out!

Rob

I guess, for males, extra absorbency up front is never a bad idea. Good luck acquiring a usable inventory of washables in a size that suits your needs.

Hi Patrick, If I'm following you, there's really no need to fold a prefold at all. It all boils down to getting a good fit around the waist. The rest of the diaper will work itself into the area between your legs. Folding it only makes it a bit more comfortable. I add pins at the leg to help hold the cloth in a better position. I also add boosters for the necessary protection. ACD has a large toddler size prefold for 38 dollars a dozen (about 3.25 ea.). I took a chance and bought a dozen. They are outstanding. They're the perfect size for a booster and REALLY absorbent. Just place them where you want extra absorbency. If you're a side sleeper, you can turn the booster sideways and towards the front for great protection. Adding what I need to be secure overnight is really simple and makes washing and drying much easier. I use two of the booster diapers with ACD's Purity nightweight adult diaper. They work out great.
For what it's worth, I've found cloth works best when there's some bulk. That wouldn't be cool for daytime use but for nighttime it isn't a problem for me. If you feel wetness just add another booster. When there is sufficient bulk for your issues you most likely wont be able to tell the diaper is wet. Yeah, I'm sold on cloth for most circumstances. Ted

For nighttime protection, depending on the ages of the diapers I'm using, I do not fold the outer diaper; however, I do fold the inner diaper and the booster pad so as to give myself the maximum protection. I use a modified version of the fold in the Primer.

Rob, I'm glad to see that you are doing so well with the cloth diapers! :D

if in any doubt at all, go the next larger size. That also will insure that the wings have good overlap and make it easier to fasten them.

Folding the front of the diaper up is both for a better fit and to provide more absorbency in front where males need it the most. If the diaper already is snug for you front to back, you may not need to fold up in the front. I have a friend who does not fold his cloth diapers. I have to. Folding the front corners or sides inward is only necessary for more comfort and to reduce the amount of excess cloth hanging down the legs. If the diaper already fits you well without folding and is comfortable, you may not need to fold it.

Pre-fold cloth diapers are flat square diapers that have been pre-folded and sewn so they will be thicker in the middle. They still lay flat though, are usually rectangular, and are still meant to be folder for pinning on. I prefer the naval defense method. Here is a good link for the various methods though.
