Hey all,

I have been experimenting with a simulated flat diaper, that is, my fleece blanket. Basically, i wanted to know whether a origami fold in a 44 square would fit. It actually fit well, but the problem i kept running into is how to pin it. If i pin it on the sides, the front falls down. If i pin it in the middle, the sides are loose. Granted, I know this is an experiment, and fleece probably isnt the same as gauze.. but it just seems pinning a flatold is just a wee bit tedious and hard to do. Then again i am using baby pins.. yes i know there are other diaper folds out there.. but it seems origami would be the simplest. Maybe it will work eventually, if i try hard enough.. but it just seems that there are a lot of unknowns.

Has anyone used flatfolds? What folds do you find best? I still don't know if im completly sold on the idea of using cloth without a stay dry liner..

Also, from what I hear, the biggest downside of AI0 is that the cover wears out before the absorbent layers do. Can anyone give me an idea how long an AIO would last?

Peace out!

Rob

Actually ... microfleece works as a stay dry liner.

Rob,

I am one of the more recent converts to cloth diapers in this group, but here is what I do.

I have used both flats and prefolds with pins. I decided that it was easier for me to use the prefolds, although they take longer to dry. I usually add a booster for day wear and always for night wear.

A 44 square flat works for me. I usually use a modified angel fold.

Re pins, there are many different opinions. I usually use 2 pins with a daytime cloth diaper and 4 pins at night to insure better coverage at the sides as I am a side sleeper. Re size of pins, I have both regular diaper pins and jumbo 3" pins. The regular size is easier to insert into the cloth but bends very easily. The 3" pins are stronger but more noticeably more difficult to insert.

I find that to support the weight of a soggy and sagging cloth diaper the pins alone are not enough. :( In addition to the required plastic pants I wear a onesie with the cloth diaper, even at night. At night the onesie becomes my PJs. :D

Rob,
I wear cloth at night, plastic pants and onesie is the ticket for me at night. I still wear disposable's during the day because of convenience. After changing to cloth at night no more wet bed and no need for a bed pad.

I've found you don't have to use just one pin on each side. I pin my cloth diapers on at the top and the bottom (or as low as you can get them to pin together), just as you would with a disposable. They fit me much better this way, which I would recommend you try as well.
