Hey all,
I know that awhile back, I asked questions about gauze flat diapers, and was at the time leaning toward trying them. I heard from different people, different opinions, and it was good to get feedback. I am still considering flat gauze, because eventually, I will run out of Attends Brethable extra absorbent and Tena Ultra. My choices from Medicaid are attends 8 and prevail. Since both are at best rated moderate to heavy absorbency, and the padding coverage is not as much as the attends breathable extra absobent, I don't know if I am ready to trust Attends outside the house. I definently would not wear them to work. It seems that Attends are good for one or two wettings becoming satruated and needing changing. Yes, I can boost them, but a premium diaper is more comfortable than a boosted standard wear diaper..I think my fellow men know what I am talking about.

I came across another possible option.. an adult pocket diaper. I found them at this website: http://wearing-adult-diapers-com.myshopify.com/
These diapers are desinged by young people who are incontinent. If i used this option, I would avoid pinning altogether, and might even actually be able to apply one standing up, which could mean that I could change these away from home. I am curios if these could work for me as a reusable cost saving option.

Snap-ez also has pocket diapers for adults.

As I understand it, the main advantage of pocke diapers over AIO is that I can customize the absorbency, and i can take it apart to wash easier, which may make it so the diaper lasts longer.

Has anyone used pocket diapers? Do they work for you? Is there padding coverage comporable to a disposable?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Peace out!

Rob

Sorry Rob, haven't tried those yet. I can tell you I wear the prevail brand. On another post I mention about a medical supply store person recommending placing a pad in front to help prevent leaks. Now the dilemma, finding a pad thin enough to do the job; feel comfortable and not look like I have socks in the front of my pants. I have found Poise has a new line of thin pads along with Always discreet and they work rather well. Only thing like you have said in the past is Prevail is ok for only one wetting and you have to change. the extra padding I have been using really helps when the flood gates open

What is your cloth diaper game plan to deal with all the extra laundry from the switch?

Well, Porkchop, I haven't thought that far ahead, but doing extra laundry would be worth it if these diapers can help me save money on extedned wear costs. I suppose I could have a bin set aside for wet diapers, with a lid on in and wash them once a week with the rest of my laundry. I wouldn't use cloth exculsively, just enough to offset the cost of disposables. The main reason why im considering this is to save on overall costs.

Peace out!

Rob

When you compare the relative costs of washables to disposables, you need to understand that the upfront costs of washables will be steep. This cost diminishes greatly over the life of the diapers, but is still a major factor. If you plan to wear them primarily at night, they will need to be either heavier weight, or you will need to use more if they are lighter weight. Add to that the cost of polyurethane pants, pins, and either Clorox or a more expensive detergent intended for cleaning diapers, and the cost/benefit ratio becomes clearer.

Bladder spasms (cramps) interrupted my sleep three times last night. I do not know of a disposable that would have handled this as well as my washables did. For me, the assurance of a dry bed is well worth cost of washables.

Actually patrick with pocket diapers, you totally eliminate the need for pins and plastic pants Take a look at this.. http://www.wearing-adult-diapers.com/Po ... apers.html

I need to go.. but in short.. the more i read about pocket diapers, the more i really want to try them. I was closed to the idea at first, because I read that on this sites primer that AIO cloth diapers tend to wear out the PUL long before you wear out the cotton in the diaper. You wouldnt have that with pocket diapers because EVERYTHING comes apart to be washed easily. The inserts are removed before you wash it.

Ok, im not trying to sell or advertise products here, but im just showing everyone what I found.. honestly, for me, other than cost and washing i have yet to see a downside. Pocket diapers actually draw urine away from the skin unlike prefold and flat fold diapers because of the way they are designed.

Peace out!

Rob

Pocket diapers are a waist of money. If you buy one you'll find out for yourself. Don't you think all the leading cloth diaper manufactures would be making, and selling "pocket diapers" if they worked? They are not absorbent and leak like a badly if you have more than a small loss of urine.

Do you have any more ideas Rob? Inquiring mind would like to know.

John,

Tell me this.. Have you used them? from this website? http://wearing-adult-diapers-com.myshopify.com/ ? Have you tried them for yourself? If not, id reserve judgement...these are designed by someone who is herself incontinent. Read about the design before you diss... each insert is made of 2 layers of flannel and 2 layers frech terry hemp. The flannel absorbs very quickly, while the terry allows for higher capacity. You may have tried pocket diapers in the past, but I highly doubt they were designed by an incontient individual. The pocket diaper she offers can hold up to 8 inserts. 8 inserts would be equal to 32 layers.. thats more than your garden variety prefold.

Peace out!

I am with Mike, with all the other stuff I have to do, I don't need to add more time consuming things to my day and a chance for a mess. Thank you for the site I did take a look at them.
