Hi everyone. Just found these forums through a google search, seems like
you have a great community here!

A couple months ago my urge incontinence got bad enough that I had to
start wearing diapers to work. My incontinence is such that I can go most of
the day without any leakage and then have a sudden flood, so I have to wear
fairly heavy duty protection. I spend most of my day in front of
a computer and I just find that sitting in a diaper for a long period
of time to be so uncomfortable. The peace of mind I get from wearing
protection offsets the discomfort, but still it would be nice not to feel like I
have a piece of sandpaper scraping at my butt.

I've experimented with a couple different brands (abena, tena, molicare, lille) and
none of them are anywhere near as comfortable as regular underwear in this respect.
I suppose I can't expect a bundle of plastic and paper to be as comfortable as cotton
but hey maybe a little improvement would be nice.

Any suggestions for staying comfortable throughout the day?

Hi StrainForce

Welcome to the community like you I too suffer from urge issues so feel for you. I now wear 24/7 a Molicare Super Soft Diaper with stretch/compression briefs on top this stops the sand paper feel as keeps the diaper a snug fit. When I first started wearing diapers I too found it difficult for me it took a time to settle on the above combination. After a lot of trial and error I have started to forget/accept that I am wearing diapers now.

All the best I understand your frustrations your not alone!

Take care hope the above has been of some assistance.

Welcome Strainforce!

If you flood very much, you can overwhelm the diaper before it has time to absorb the liquid. If you have some control, try to stop the flow long enough to give the diaper time to catch up.

I too also often flood. I have found that diapers with tall internal standing leak guards help to keep the pee in the main channel of the diaper and away from the leg gathers while the absorbent mat does its job.

We all find different solutions, but the combination that works best for me is a Dry 24/7 diaper with a small booster pad, covered by PUL pants. On top of everything I will wear a onesie for support or sports compression pants. The sports compression pants are great to reduce friction with the thighs! :D

You should try using some sort of diaper lotion. It is generaly used to prevent rashes, but it might reduce the sandpaper feel as well.

Thanks for quick replies you guys!
greenbank, I haven't tried any of the products in the Molicare soft lineup, I'll have to check them out. Also, I've been wearing normal boxer briefs over my protection, I hadn't thought to try compression pants but that seems like a really good idea. JDinVirginia, I've seen PUL pants recommended elsewhere but how's the ventilation? I'd imagine they can be pretty hot.
I've not tried using cloth diapers yet. For those that have, do you think they're more comfortable for long sits?

Strainforce, PUL pants have a breathable membrane like GoreTex which is laminated to the fabric. The breathability can help to reduce rashes.

However, much like GoreTex, the breathability is not as great as we usually would like (which is one reason why many GoreTex jackets have pit-zips to improve ventilation).

Most of us assume that if you are bladder incontinent, and particularly if you flood, you will wear some form of diaper cover ("plastic pants") to catch leaks. While every layer adds some warmth, the PUL pants are much cooler than non-breathable plastic pants like vinyl. I wear the Gary Activewear PUL pants and find that they last longer than vinyl pants, which makes up for their higher price.

StrainForce,

Welcome to our little group. You may find that washables will suit your needs well, even at work. If you consider beginning to use washables, you might start using them at home first, then wearing them at work after you begin to feel secure in them. Washables are more demanding of changing facilities than disposables. You will need more space, and a diaper/gym bag that is large enough to carry plastic bags with twist ties, pre-moistened wipes, and clean and soiled diapers. Not all rest rooms will suffice, and those that are large enough are not always clean. This makes rest room mapping very important; it becomes second nature on your usual haunts.

Again, welcome. I look forward to your wisdom in future posts.

Hi StrainForce and welcome to our little corner of the interwebs.

I will echo what Patrick said about cloth and add that cloth diapers take more practice to get right when compared to disposables. Size, layering, pinning, over pants sizing- there are so many variables you need to get right before you can feel comfortable in them. Then there is the storage & laundry details to work out as well. Once you do get all those variables down pat, they are far more comfortable, especially in the warmth of summer.

Strainforce,

I will also add my greetings to you and welcome you to our site. As far as sitting all day at work, I'm in the same boat as you. I do get to get up and move here and there but for the most part I am tied to one area and usually sitting. I have found for me at work that a quality diaper an my normal briefs underwear works fine. There is a thread on here titled "How do you wear?" that many of us had posted with what each one of us does. Link is below. If you read through that you will see that how we each approach this is as varied as there are users on here. But maybe something there will strick as a solution for you. Good luck and feel free to post and ask questions.

You might also find the XP medical brand is quite soft, and very absorbent. However I will say with my job, sitting and standing in heat, after a few hours, the diaper material begins to fall apart. And once wet a couple times, it sags between my legs. But I wear loose uniform pants and it is not really noticeable except to me. However, I drink coffee, and water, so a diaper does not last my entire shift anyhow.
