I need some help- I'm enrolled in an I-CORPS class that teaches commercialization to academic teams. (Here is a url if anybody is interested in the program: http://cimitcolab.org/web/bootcamp/cimit-healthcare-commercialization-camp). My project involves urinary incontinence, and part of the class is talking with the targeted population of your project. If anyone would be interested in a short, anonymous discussion that would be extremely helpful. There's also this brief survey we created, if anyone is willing to give some quick feedback (should only take 1 minute).
I want to stress that this is not a sales request, we don't have a product to sell, and the information used will be kept confidential and remain within the confines of this class. I'm just looking to fulfill the class guidelines which requests interviews.
Thank you!
You can pm me, or reply to the thread if anyone's willing.

Poorly constructed survey. Questions lack sufficient specificity to be valid. You just flunked marketing 101. :(

"Discomfort" usually is a euphemism for "pain" and normal is not applicable in a discussion of incontinence.

You ask "How frequently does this problem occur" and do not specify which problem - the discomfort, the stress, or incontinence.

A good question would be to ask how many times a week one's incontinence adversely affects quality of life.

You still come off sounding like a marketing ploy to sell something.

Most of the participants of the incontinencesupport.org forums are moderately to severely incontinent. Marketing concepts applicable to those with light or mild incontinence (who would buy diapers from a drug store rather than a medical supply hours or adult diaper vendor) would not apply to this group. Almost all have incontinence several times a day. Most wear premium (rather than drugstore) diapers 24/7 or wear an external catheter. A few use timed voiding but still wear diapers. The remainder are a small percentage.

You ask about having a phone conversation but then request an email address?

I am double incontinent (bowel and bladder) and wear diapers 24/7.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply- I agree that the survey is generic and lacks specificity; we tried to purposely make it as open as possible to see if anyone is willing to discuss via phone. I included the email as an option so we could coordinate a time to talk if people are willing, rather than a phone number request and then calling without any pre-determined time. As part of the course, we need to interview people, so we're trying the survey as a first step to see who would want to have a discussion with us.

My apologies if there was any misunderstanding.

Thanks,
Marshall

I'll be willing to help, but honestly that survey is generic that many people aren't going to take it seriously. It doesn't seem like you've done any research into the subject you are inquiring about.

Also, I don't talk to people on the phone. Pretty much my only phone conversations are with close friends and family. I'd be happy to have a conversation, and answer questions in a forum like this, but I won't be giving out my phone number.

Great! Thanks for your availability, I'm happy to take it "online" instead of the phone. I will PM you with a couple questions.

Thanks!

mcollin,

Although I recognize the survey monkey is a valid survey site, I am skeptical about links published to forums. Like MSUSpartan, the only people who have my phone number are family and friends. Don't know how much information I could offer you as I am relatively new to this compare to others here. If you wish to pm me that is fine.

Thanks batman381327- I completely understand the concern about giving out the phone number, that's why I made the point of contact an email, so people could choose to set up the time to talk with me at their convenience, as well as give them the opportunity to decline before giving out their number on a survey link.

I will pm you to chat further- thanks for the help!
