You know that saying that goes.. if it ain't broke.. don't fix it? Well, right now I am thinking that the people over at Tena should take those words to heart with their "New and improved" cloth sided version of the tena Slip maxi. I was eager to try them; after all, I really liked the origional version with its incredible capacity yet slim design..it has proven to be indespensible for discreet extended wear when I can't wear 38 pants.. which, admittedly, doesnt happen much anymore. I do however have two dresspants that are not size 38 that I have yet to get a bigger size in. Those would be my more dressier dress pants, not the ones i subsitute teach int. The ones I sub in, I have 3 pairs of 38s :). Anyway..I tried t aping one on..and was pulling hte left panel taught against my thigh.. and the panel ripped! agh.. ok.. so i try on diaper no 2.. one of the tapes ripped..ok maybe i was pulling too hard.. or maybe i am a bit to big for these, I don't know.. maybe ill try sampling a size large. One things for sure, the padding coverage is noticably reduced in the front, which is a big deal for me.. the main advantage of wearaing a brief vs pullup is padding coverage. Anyway, to make sure I'm not giving them an unfair chance.. I tried on the 3rd one..and the tape ripped again.. Ok, This happened with the Absobency plus when i bought size medium..when i went to a size large it fixed the problem.. maybe if i go to a size large in the tena slip.. this problem wont happen?

Heres another thing.. it seems with cloth back there seems to be more of a gap at the legs.. Am I wrong about this, or have others noticed it too? It just seems plastic back has a better seal at the legs for me. Uh-oh.. If all i can wear is plastic back.. we have a serious problem..that severely limits my options for this summer.. Id better try and see if i can make a clothbacked work..

In the mean time, I need to find an alternative to the Tena slip maxi for slim extended wear...sigh.. and here i was hoping they would have improved the product!! Ugh!

Peace out!

Rob

I totally agree. They changed in the UK just after I switched over to catheter use and the delivery I got were all the new cloth backed. I think I posted something on hear at the time. I very rarely have to use diapers now but if I were I would not be happy with the new Tena.

Fortunately, I grabbed two cases of the plastic-backed Tena Slip Maxi's from XP Med before they ran out. To make them last, I am trying to save them for wear when I need something thin and discreet with dress cothes. Otherwise I usually wear ConfiDry 24/7.

When I run out of my plastic-backed Tenas I think I will stay with the Super Seni Quatro - if XP Med still stocks them. So far the Seni is the best breathable cloth-backed diaper I have tried. As I have noted elsewhere, the Seni sags much less than other cloth-backed diapers. It has a 4 liter or 128 oz maximum absorbent capacity, internal standing leak guards, elastic waist front and back, wetness indicator front and back, and good tapes. The Seni wicks very well, so that more of the diaper is used than with other brands. Because of this I have had success wearing the Seni at night. The price is just about the same as the Tena Slip Maxi.

JD: Like you I also scooped up several cases of the plastic tena's (too bad they no longer exist!). And while I have a ways to go before I have to look for a thin alternative, I have a question for you: how would you compare the Seni to the XP Med's A3 or A4 in terms of thinness and/or discreetness?

ILuvLA, the A Plus is a great diaper, but in comparing the Super Seni Quatro to the A3 or A4, the Seni is thinner and more discreet. Also, more absorbent. However, to be fair it must be noted that the Seni is more expensive than the A Plus.

The Seni is a little more discreet than a Tena Slip Maxi. I would wear the A Plus at home, or away from home on routine chores wearing jeans or dockers, but would wear the Seni with dress clothes.

I just received a case of Seni's a week ago and am getting ready to order another case before XP Med runs out again.

JD- which Seni are you talking about? The Quattro or the other one?

Anyone that likes the Tena Slip Maxi needs to take a good look at the Secure Personal Care X-Plus. It is a great balance of capacity and thickness. They are a little thicker than the Tena Slip Maxi and they can hold up for 4 to 6 hours for me. For over night I have rarely had them leak. If the VA had a contract with them I wouldn't bother with anything else.

When Abena discontinued the plastic backed M4 and L4 people in the US started complaining directly to the company. It had a positive effect. Abena decided to continue producing the plastic backed diapers for the US market. If we complain loud enough then Tena will listen or it will cost them serious financial support because they will lose market share.

Click the link and call or email your complaint directly to Tena!
http://www.tena.us/on/demandware.store/Sites-Tena_US-Site/en_US/CustomerService-Show

Or

Sit there at your computer complaining and not effect any kind of change.

Most of the diaper manufactures listen to focus groups of care givers. They rarely ask the person who has to wear their products. They worry more that a diaper doesn't look like a diaper, like that will magically make the wearer not feel like they are incontinent. I call BS! If it does the job of a diaper, it IS a DIAPER!

Quit trying to appeal to my fashion sense to fix my confidence issues with incontinence if it leaks or just doesn't work for me. That is like a blind man wearing an analog watch so he won't look like he's blind. It is cosmetic and pointless! Make a product that works and works well, and quit trying to improve something your customers actually like!

Tena,
The people WITH incontinence are your customers, not their caregivers!

This was my email to Tena. Feel free to use it as a template but use your own words so they don't think it's the same person complaining.

"Tena,

I am very disappointed in the change to the fake cloth backing on the Tena Slip Maxi! Frankly I am appalled that any company thinks that the a backing that lets odor freely escape is a good thing for incontinence and discretion.

As a person with incontinence I can tell you from experience that the plastic backed diapers are the best for the users. I don't call smelly and leak prone sexy or great. I call it embarrassing. It causes me embarrassment to have a diaper fail at doing exactly what I need it to do. A diaper is there to contain bodily waste. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I could care less what a diaper looks like. I'm not going to show it off in public or on a fashion runway. And I certainly don't want to have my choice of protection fail when I need it the most. In public!

When I first became incontinent I believed the hype about the image and was let down at every turn. I became a prisoner of my own home because I didn't want the embarrassment of leaking while out in public. You have no idea what it feels like to have to walk through a mall full of people with soaked pants because you trusted that "new and improved" meant better leak prevention. I have and I will never forget that feeling.

A plastic backed diaper with good capacity offers me everything I need to live a productive and social life. It contains leaks AND odors!

And please don't tell me the air flow is better for my skin. I take measures to ensure skin health and it doesn't mean I need to sacrifice protection.

Please let me know when Tena decides to listen to the users and produce a diaper that contains waste and odor like the original Slip Maxi did. I will not buy another Tena product until that happens.

Respectfully,

A former Tena customer."

Seattle: Thanks for the link. I've put in my letter (similar to yours). I hope others do the same! ILuvLA.

What?

These are my main day time diaper!

I dont know what to do with out them!

They fit under clothing and they offer the needed protection and odour control!

All the other products that thin either clumb and fall apart or they are crap at odor control and leak/

Great im in a panick now
