Like many in this support group, I have nerve damage in my spine which causes my incon. I'm still able to get around ok without the use of wheelchair, or scooter, but after using some clothing items with snaps, I noticed how easy it was to put on, and remove. I know there are many places on the web that sell adaptive clothing,, so I thought I would ask if anyone knows of a place that sells quality sweats (pants, & shirt) with snaps at a reasonable price? I don't mind paying a fair price, but I just don't want to get gouged. I know a light weight set of sweats with cheap snaps will cost less, but I am looking for medium to heavy weight sweats with larger size quality snaps,........something that will last for a few years. Any suggestions? |

Johnstone, Try Easy Access Clothing. At www.easyaccessclothing.com. The ladies name is Sandy. She makes all kinds of adaptive clothing. I know she could provide you what you seek. Check out the site. And with a prescription from your VA doc, the Prosthetics department will pay for your clothing. Try it. They bought me bodysuits from that company. |

I can also vouch for them, great craftmanship in the shirts I got, not all exactly the same sixe of a Sm, but close enough. Going on 2 years now for three of them part time use, and still look new. I also see a link on their site now that is new "Vendor for Veterans Benefits. Check out our bodysuits (concealers) for your clothing allowance with Dr. Prescription." Your chat with them Don may have very well been the cause of that addition, well done friend!  Puffy

Yeah that was me Puff. It didn't exist before I brought it up to Sandy and my contact at the VA. I helped get them started. Now all veterans can enjoy. But the message is misleading. If you have the clothing allowance, you don't need a script. If you get a script, you don't need the allowance. I've tried calling Sandy on it but she is busy. It's not just bodysuits that the VA will purchase either. Sandy is confused. With the clothing allowance, I think you get a check once a year up to around $800 to buy the items you need like adaptive clothing and incontinence garments. With a prescription from the VA, the Prosthetics department will make the purchase. You just have to get it approved. It's not a difficult process if you know who to talk to. The Pharmacy Chief and Prosthetics Chief are a good team to have on your side if your VA doc will write the script. I've had to learn the hard way Puff. Johnstone and I have become good friends. We worked together through trial and error to get the VA to make a non formulary purchase for diapers (Abena) for our complete bladder and bowel incontinence. We learned the hard way and we each have a different method because we have different causes to our incon issues. But the end result was the same. The purchase was made and we got the abena's. I took it a few steps further. The VA purchased for me bodysuits from easy access clothing (EAC). They also bought me devrom for fecal odor. The pharmacy bought the devrom. It's a formulary product. I thought to myself one day, if they (the VA) is willing to buy me special diapers, how about the other items that would make my life easier? I believe in sharing that knowledge with other veterans to help them in their quest for better products. If I find a product that I like, I'll bring it up to the owner to get involved with the VA and become a vendor. They just have to be a stable company and based in the US. The VA won't buy anything internationally. I take great satisfaction in helping people through the process. As a disabled veteran of the Global War on Terror myself, I hope I am touching other veterans lives and making living with incon issues nothing more than an inconvenience. |

Good on ya Don, you are earning your good Karma points by having slogged through all the red tape and questions, and are openly willing to share that info to others who most likely would otherwise have no idea about it all, making life and the hassles involved in disabilitiwes a whole lot easier to have to deal with.
