knowing incontinent people

Tue Nov 06, 2007 8:18 pm

I have to admit it is interesting that I know/are friends with three people that are incontinent. The interesting thing is that two of them are only in their 20's. I remember when I was in my early 20's a urologist telling me I'd be surprised to know how many people my age have some sort of incontinent problem? I know of a few other people that have issues but I've never talked to. Two are relatives all are over the age of 65 (when in theory it suppose to happen) Maybe when your younger it's more of a secret? ..................Sandy

People's secrets

Sandy,
You hit the nail on the head abouit young people and their incontinence. Most people who see these "Depend" or "Surenity" commercials, think old people. But most "poise" pad advertisments in the magazines always shows young women!
It's tough on a younger person since it's not suppose to be that way. As most get older, it seems they think it's just a part of getting old. That has something to do with it, but everyone who is having a promblem with incontinence should see their doctor. So many don't, though.
People just have to make the best of it, and boards like this, and people like you, Sandy, can help them out with suggestions as you have done many times. ....................Paul (Martin)

One of those Days I should of worn cloth

Thu Nov 08, 2007 9:40 pm

Well I just had one of those days today. My husband sent me a few hours south today with his truck to go and get an engine and some other parts. Well I was tired so I stopped at McDonalds and got a large Coffee   Boy did that wake me up WOW! I almost never drink the stuff. Then I couldn't stand the taste in my mouth so an hour or so later I got a one liter bottle of Pepsi. (yes I was Naughty) picked up the stuff I needed started heading home finished the Pepsi. Stopped at a convenience store to get a bottle of water to get rid of the Pepsi taste and went to the restroom just in time  while sitting checked my protection. Should I change or not :?: I was wearing a Molicare super plus with a full length booster/liner in it as well. Well it was fairly wet but I thought I'm only about an hour or so from home. I added another Maxi size booster and thought that should do it. I can make it home now.

Well when in doubt CHANGE :!: has always been my rule. So much for rules. I got about 30 min. down the road and out of nowhere I flooded. Which of course I was leaking by this point on my husbands trucks cloth seats :( Well now if that's not bad enough Then mind you I'm on the interstate. with no where to get off. Anyway I'm almost home about ten Min. or so what do I see ahead as I come over a hill. BRAKE LIGHTS   Well traffic is stop and go for about a 1/2 hour. Appears a car swerved to miss a deer and then got hit by a pick up which then hit the deer!!! was the story I got So by the time I got through that I was even more wet. got off the interstate. only two miles to go and my bladder let loose again  I pulled in the driveway and all I could do was sit there in what felt like a lake and cry. To my surprise My husband took it rather well. He even offered to help me shampoo the seat after i got changed

I found out later one of the other guys in the shop asked about the wet seat. My husband replied you no Sandy and soda she dumped another soda in her lap while driving home  .............Sandy

Sandy,
What a disaster! That's one story of misfortune. Your motto of "when in doubt, CHANGE!", was so ever true.
I make trips to the big city several times and usually have a soda or a cup of coffee on the way. I always make sure I've got a spare diaper in my truck since I've had times when I have a bunch of spasms happening and my diaper gets pretty full. Fortunately, I hardley ever flood like you did, bit I've been close.
My wife has suggested I take a waterproof pad to set under me if I have a bad leak, but the way you described your situation, it may have not worked. Your husband was very understanding. I'll bet most would have blown their top.
I guess you'll stick to your motto next time and change into a dry diaper  Best of luck to you next time! ...........Paul(Martin)

drink from something else

Fri Nov 09, 2007 2:57 pm

I was out in the shop this morning one of the guys said laughing you and soda sure don't get along do you  Maybe you should try drinking from a coffee cup with a cover on the top of the cup. at least if it lands in your lap you will have a chance. He's got no clue...............Sandy

Yes your probably right most would have blown their top. But then what good is that going to do I was already crying he knows for the most part that I have little to no control over my bladder. And on top of everything else he's become somewhat acustum to his wife having accidents after being with me all these years. He never said anything but I'm sure he would rather not have it happen in his truck :? ...............Sandy

Sandy,
I believe everybody has learned a lesson form your story. Have a nice weekend! .....................Paul

You may have something with putting a pad down on the seat I guess I've thought of that but never done it. You could conceal it by placing a towel over it. But your right yesterday that may have helped but it wouldn't have saved the day. Sad part is I had diapers with me of course(never leave home without them) I could have changed but no I had to be daring. Well live and learn, Even veterans make a mistake once in awhile

Emergency Pad

Sandy,
I just thought of another ideal. You could hide one of those disposable underpads some where in your husbands truck to have if you ever get a daring mood again. That way you could throw it under yourself and drive fast to the nearest bathroom. ............Paul Martin

Well I think my daring is gone for awhile. That was a good reality check. I do keep extra diapers in all our vehicles and several in our/my van. I've also got boosters powder creams and wipes as well in my van I could be gone near a week sometimes with all I've got in there :) ....Sandy
