Disposables are so expensive, but cloth is complicated and requires regular washing on top of regular laundry. There comes a time when one wonders is the dollar amount I save in theory worth the extra hassle with cloth? I'm not sure at this point. The washing machines in our apartment building quit working, and thus it is a no go for cloth use. I have a posideon washing machine in my apartment, but there is no spin cycle. However, it is lightweight. A spinner is on the way to us. There has GOT to be an easier way to wash cloth diapers... I hope so, because $120+ per case for northshore care adds up. Even if I use better dry, thats 100 per month, whereas if I wash every day thats 3 dollars a day. If I use the dryer in my apartment I will save money overall. Cloth diaper storage is the whole reason we got a 2 bedrom apartment in the first place, and now its apparent that washing these things is more complicated and hassle-laden than I thought it would be. So, what next? I don't know. The 2nd bedroom also doubles as an office. Can I afford to use disposable exclusively? Yes, probably, but that would mean giving up other things.

I am just venting... Incontinence sucks..

I use cloth diapers only. If you can sew you can make cloth a lot cheaper than if you had to buy them. If you or any one wants instruction on how to make them, I will post here. You will need plastic pants, I make then for less than a dollar.

I've always maintained that the ideal washing machine (for diapers) is the old fashioned ringer washer. They're rugged and last forever and have no spin cycle. The clothing is wrung through the ringer (just be careful). They can still be had, perhaps free from the right sources.

If I ever go cloth, it will be because I am in a living situation where I can use a wringer washer.

Retired RN, thanks, but my mom is the sewer of the family. I dont think I would be coordinated enough to sew. I have a ninja spinner and it works well. The Posideon works well, as does using my bathtub for rinsing. Its just a lot of work! I gave up using disposables for the remainder of this calendar year in hopes of saving money. I have 1 bag of Forsite and 1 bag of Mega max, both with a few diapers missing. That's IT. No more disposables till January, barring travel, but I don't plan on traveling this year due to the cost of airfare. Maybe in a few years my wife and I will join our siblings in Texas for Thanksgiving.

My credit card debt is sky high so cutting out disposables would be one way of saving.
