As most of you know, I am a substiute teacher/substitute paraprofessional, and its a job that i like. Today was a day I worked as an aide at a special education center. The kids go swimming 3 days a week, and since I had my swimsuit(like I always do) I volunteered to go swimming. Not a big deal, because I had my swimsuit over my pocket diaper.. the only potentially awkward part is when I have to put a dry diaper on. Usually I can do this in a stall with a closed door, where i can still keep an eye on the kids. This time, however, a st udetn was using that partiucular bathroom...so I had no choice but to put my dry pocket diaper on in the locker room. I hoped that none of them would say anything, and not notice what i was doing, since the pocekt diaper looks more like ordinary underwear than it does a diaper, but nope.. one of the kids asked Why are you wearing a diaper? I froze, and was dumfounded, nto sure what to say next. He kept asking, and at first i said it wasnt a diaper.. but then i just said, "It's not your business." He said, Oh, and just went on getting dressed. Note to self, next time swimming if said bathroom is occupied, steal a second to chagne in one of hte otehher stalls. I wasnt the only adult in there, so I could have gotten away with that. Anyone have an akward out of the mouths of babes moment like that?

Peace out!

Rob

I've had something like this happen to me once too. I was at a pool with very few people there at that time. When I was done and getting dressed there was nobody else in the locker room so I toweled off started to tape on a new disposable right at the locker.

Right then a 10-11 year old walks in, sees me half diapered, and just freezes. After a couple of seconds he also asked why I was wearing a diaper. I just told him it was because I got into a bad car accident and am now incontinent so I need a diaper. He was like oh, ok, and we both just went on our own business like it was no big deal.

Like you found, run-ins like this don't have to be embarrassing. Usually if you're not then the other person won't be too embarrassed (or nosey) either.

I'm kind of worried about my own kid(s) finding out. I only wear at night and my son is only16 months old (planning to try to have another soon) but I know it won't be long before he's getting out of bed to try to come in and sleep with us. Now, I just sleep in my diaper and compression style boxer briefs over it. I can't stand sleeping with a shirt on.

It'll be hard to figure out how to answer "daddy why you wearing a diaper?".

I have very little if any hope of ever being dry at night.

MikeJames, The best answer is the honest one that is also strait forward. Yes keep it to your self because incontinence and diapers is a private matter in most situations. But when he does come asking (not if) just tell the truth. Play it off as a serious matter (which it is), and try not to make it into a big deal (and it won't be). Really.

MJ, he probably won't say anything. My son is 3, and I never hid my night diaper, and he never asked.

Mike, I too dread having to address this with my sons. I don't think they've noticed because we try to be discreet but I don't know. Either way, a healthy dad is preferable so you just gotta carry on!
