New, but needing support.

Mon May 30, 2016 7:07 pm

This is my first post and am thankful for this support line. I am a male 36 years old. I have been having nightly accidents and have resorted to using diapers to contain what I can't. I am married to a wonderful woman that has accepted me, even during my most frustrating times. I have a high stress job, just currently moves into a house of 'our own' and have four kids ranging in age 10-1.5. I have had constant dribbling during the day and super heavy wetting during the night. Is my incontinece caused by all these stressors in my life (because a doctor says no). What is the best nighttime diaper that is available that would help me so I'm not wetting all over?

Welcome to the forum. The first thing I would suggest is that you see a doc about your incontinence. The doc will need to do several tests to rule out any serious problems such as a tumor, cancer, etc. Your incontinence can be caused by several issues,.... and yes, stress can be a cause, but from what you have described I suspect there is more to your problem than just stress.

There are a number of high quality products available for day, and/or night use. I would recommend you try one, or all of the following;

ComfiDry24/7
Abena Abri-Form Premium Briefs Level 4
North Shore Supreme Briefs
MoliCare Super Plus Briefs

I have provided links below to two places most people in this forum buy form. There are several places that sell these diapers with the exception of the North Shore Briefs (diapers). These diapers are proprietary and are ONLY sold by North Shore Medical Supply Co. (link below). The other company that most of us buy from is XP Medical, (link provided below) sells all other brands mentioned plus many, many more. The recommendations I made are just a few of the quality brand diapers available, but what I have suggested are among some of the very best on the market.

As a added suggestion, you might want to purchase just a package of the different brand diapers recommended. I'm sure both companies sell sample packages allowing you a chance to try different brands. I'm pretty sure if you call North Shore they will even send you a sample diaper for free, but you will need to check with them. Both companies recommended below are very good, so I know you will well satisfied with your buying experience.

Hope this helps.

Hello, mvincent, and welcome to the forum. Even though your doctor says that stress isn't causing your nighttime accidents, if you have a childhood bedwetting history, it can. Bedwetting can return at any time during a person's lifetime, even into adulthood, decades after a child outgrows it. Stress is a trigger. You mentioned that you and your family recently moved into your own home. IMHO, that new stress factor in your life, coupled with your high-stress job and large family, could cause a return to bedwetting. Since you have consulted a physician about your wet nights, I assume that he/she has done a complete work-up, including blood work, to rule out a medical concern. If not, I think it's wise, whether or not you wet your bed as a child/teen.

As to diaper recommendations, johnstone beat me to it! I second everything on his list, and the suppliers as well.

W.

Welcome mvincent33,

The diapers and vendors Johnstone mentions are all top quality. But they come with one caveat: All disposable diapers have a high likelihood of leaking, if you sleep on your side. They just don't have the protection where it's needed when lying on your side.

Many people here recommend cloth diapers for sleeping, especially on your side, because they have protection all the way around, absorb much faster and wick urine away much farther than disposables can. Check out the primer for good introduction here.

I'm 34, and started wetting the bed again (regularly) 4 years ago.

I also recommend the sites listed for premium diapers. The shit they carry in stores doesn't cut it.

Welcome, mvincent,

I already have responded to you in another topic. I will echo the good advice that others already have provided here, but will emphasize the need for urological testing.

Thank you to all for the responses. I do have an appointment with a urologist a week from today. Also, I did have a history of bed wetting in my preteen years. My parents were really quick to put me right into diapers. I believe my past demon has returned and this time I was really quick to put myself back into diapers.

I'm not a doc, but the dribble you mention sounds like it "could" be related to some kind of prostate problem. The night issues your having could be anything. Having a doc (urologist) do some tests to make sure whatever your cause(s) you have they are not warning signs of anything serious. Your taking the first step by seeing the doc.

Good Luck.

Keep us posted.

Stress absolutely can play a part in incontinence, but is often more like a trigger for a different underlying problem. Your history of bed wetting may or may not even be playing a role here. We can only guess here though, so you absolutely will need to follow up with your urologist. Probably a bunch of times too.

Get ready for a urodynamics study, and to be put on one medication after another. Many don't work for everyone, but everyone is different so it's still worth trying them as one eventually may work. Also be ready for the medication side effects. Again, many have found the various side effects are not worth it regardless of any small benefit, but again some aren't bothered by them at all and do have a benefit. So they are at least worth trying and/or ruling out.
