:( looks like I might have to up my protection at night

Mon Dec 14, 2015 10:13 am

Hey all,

As most of you know, my incontiennce seems to be strictly daytime/awkake in origin.. because rarely ever do i wake up with a wet diaper.. but, most mornings, a few minutes after I get out of bed, i have Niagra Falls. Consequently, i wear even at night, because sometimes as soon as i get out of bed sometimes in the middle of the night, the floodgates open. Up until now tena utra and Attends have been more or less adequate... well, i dont know if it would be considered adequtae. I got up this morning, had a flood and then went back to bed without changing.. and it was eitehr the fit of the diaper or it was press out, but i got my bedsheets wet. I think I saturated the Tena ultra and it leaked with pressure.. It seems i might want to conisder upping to Abena, because I never know when i might hvave to lay down after getting up before changing.. I don;t know. Perhaps a better alternative than using up my supply of abena is usiing hte pocket diapers wehn i get enough of them.

Does this happen to anyone else? You don't wet the bed/in your sleep at all, but as soon as you get up, Niagra falls? how do you deal with it?

Peace out!

Rob

Hi Rob

Try a sample of dry 24/'s they work great for me, I have the same issue when I wake up most mornings I would never make it to the bathroom before flooding.

I have noticed if I pee juring the nite and then when I wake up even the dry 24/7's leak once in a. While I guess it all depends on how much I wet at night while sleeping.

Dry a dry 24/7 but also get a few larger sized 33"x54" water, professor washable absorbant bed pad for on top of the sheets that you can quickly Change out if you leek.

Ditto to what Rob has said, but but I would recommend adding a booster to the Dry 24/7, plus plastic pants.

The washable absorbent pads can save a lot of embarrassment - and a mattress.

On a whim, I decided to go with my prefold diaper from baby pants becuase i was wering abena sitting down, and somehow i had leaks! I was a wake but hanging out on my couch,, so i thought.. since the diaepr is cloth..it should have absorbent padding all around.. so i put iton.. Still working out how to pin and fit the diaper.. but I slept pretty good.. and when i got up and had the customary flood..twice before i had a chance to change.. as far as i know, no leaks, although the diaepr could have fit better.. It occured to me then that perahps prefolds or flatfolds and plastic pants wouldn't be a bad idea exclusively for night/morning deluges.. but the one downside would be if i were able to make it to the toilet in the middle of the night.. id have a hard time taking it off.. hmm.. maybe a cloth pullup? It's something to consider..

I am still weighimg my options when it comes ot the interstim.. im not totally discounting it.. but do have strong concerns.. such as discomfort wihle cathing, UTIs, and complications from the interstim istelf.. For now ill keep using diapers... if i ever got o thepoint of totally losing control and never making it to the toilet.. then i might reconsider. but on the other hand, if i do this, i mgiht save considerably on a lifetime supply of diapers.. so.. I don't know.

Peace out!

Rob

Rob,

A cloth pull-up, even a good one, usually will not have absorbency equal to a night-weight prefold.

Be patient. It takes time to fine-tune the folding and pinning. You may need to adjust your fold slightly to leave a little more material lower at the legs to catch any flooding. Take that excess material at the legs and roll it inward. That roll of cloth will help in the event of flooding or side-leaks at night.

Once you have a cloth diaper on, just plan on using it and not trying to remove it to make it to the toilet and then having to put the cloth diaper back on.

Re the InterStim, I have done a fair amount of research on it and would recommend that you take a very cautious approach until it becomes absolutely necessary and you have no other viable options.

Especially for males, there can be a steep learning curve leading to the successful use of cloth diapers while asleep. Most males get erections while they sleep; although they have no control of this, nor even any memory, it does complicate the placement of absorbency for incontinents. And it keeps us humble. Several times each year, damp sheets remind me that I got it wrong last night.

I can totally relate to what Rob writes here. I dribble in my sleep; however, I never fully void. I typically wake up wake up feeling a minor urge to hit the bathroom, which becomes a major urge as soon as I stand up. The trick, I have found, is to exercise ninja-like discipline and hit the bathroom right away. That means no email, no fiddling with my alarm clock -- nothing. When I stick with this plan, all is well. If I get distracted, I sometimes have accidents.
