Thank you all for the feedback, really appreciated! I hope to receive more tips if possible. John, can you tell me if the PUL pants you describe are waterproof with wet cloth diapers? I have the experience that PUL doesn't work that well with cloth. Thanks for the feedback,

PUL works fine with cloth. I used them for about a year.

To keep this excellent thread alive, I will agree with what Papa said earlier that you cannot have too much protection. It is all about experimentation and becoming accustomed to the bulk. I have not had a single wet bed since I began wearing cloth diapers, even though I am well hydrated when I go to bed - and I owe that to all of the help from those of you in this forum. Thanks!

With regard to how much protection, I err slightly on the side of overkill. Remember, it is better to bulge than to leak. I usually wear a night-weight cloth diaper with a day-weight diaper, plus a booster. Under PUL pants, of course. Not only have I had no night-time leaks, but the combination has let me stop worrying about leaking in the morning before I change. I like to have a leisurely morning before I change - coffee while I watch the news, then I work for an hour before I change.

John, There is no overkill. Sleeping with 100% confidence and being able to get up and enjoy the morning without worrying about your diapers is the way it should be. Nights and mornings should be "free time" - free from worry. The rest of the day will have trials and worries so we need a space of time where we can be relaxed and comfortable. We have found that. For overnight use, especially, I need to echo the response from others, it's hard to have too much cloth diapering. I don't like finding my CD has exceeded it's capacity, that's a morning surprise I can do without!

Because of my stomach paralysis, when I eat too much at supper, I must sleep sitting up. This means that gravity puts more stress on my bladder, which in turn makes my nighttime diapering more difficult. I need three full nighttime diapers plus a polyurethane overpant to give me adequate protection. But it works.

Yes, one of the biggest advantages of using cloth diapers is how easy it is to just add more protection. If one is not enough...wear two. If your disposable diaper fails you can add a booster but if that fails you have to start searching for a new diaper and we all know how maddening that is. When I finally accepted cloth diapers, years ago, managing my wetting became so easy. To the point I wear cloth diapers about 80% of the time. And 100% of the time at home. Papa

And the reliability of cloth diapers is so good. I only experienced one leak out of the plastic pants in 150 nights. I suspect that on that night I may have failed to completely cover the diaper with the plastic pants.
