Hi I'm new on here but I'm involved on several other boards so here I go...

I'm am an 18 year old female with several medical issues including diabeties insipidus, Leber's, hearing loss, Polycystic ovaries, hypothyroidism, hypopututarism, etc. which with the acception of Leber's (I've been blind all my life) all have onset within the last 2 years. anyway, my most recent issue is I have for some reason lost the use of my right leg, I literally woke up one morning and couldn't move my right leg. my bladder had been acting up before that though but I chumped it put to the meds I was on. anyway after dealing with it silently for a while I told my mom I couldn't take it anymore. we made an appointment and got an referral to a urologist. he looked at me and is 99% sure that the paralises in my leg and my bladder issue is related. He is putting me on flowmax and seeing if that helps, but he told me I need to try protection products, because he's not sure if he can help that much. the way my bladder is: is I'm dribbling constantly, and then when I try to go its very weak, and not a lot, and it takes me a long time to go. My mother baught the CVS pads and I can already tell I preferred my other ones. but I think I'm getting worse... I don't know what do you think I should do? keep in mind that I am blind and I have a mobility issue that prevents me from getting were I need to go fast. also this is a very sensative topic for me and not one that I'd care to bring up to my mom anymore than I'd have too. what do you suggest? any advice?

Thanks for your post and welcome to the forum. One thing that confuses me is why your urologist is having you take "Flomax". This drug is suppose to help males have a stonger stream who have an enlarged prostate. I didn't know women used this.
To answer your question on what type protection to use, I would suggest a Pull-up type protective under wear. If your buying from CVS, I would reccommend the "CVS" brand over the Depend or Tena brand. I use their pull-up in the mornings on my way to the YMCA to swim. You're in a tough situation. Hopefully your Mom will be understanding and offer her support.
Sandy, one of our moderators on this site, is an excellent advisor for our female members. She's a real peach! We all love her to death on this site. If you have any other questions, just post and we'll get you the answer! ........PAUL MARTIN

I asked my doctor the same thing, he said it also can help women with a tight spinture to relax and improve flow... I'm just as confused as you are. how do you suggest telling my mom that I need something stronger htan what I have?

Thanks for the clarification on that drug. That's news to me. I'll ask my urologist this fall when I see him.
As far as "something stronger than what I have" I assume your talking about protection? If that's the case, you and you alone know what you need. Other than showing your Mom your wet diaper as you change to prove your wetting, she has to trust what you need. ......Paul Martin

Swimmergirl,

I don't know if you are still here on the board, your last post was this past April, but I hope you are. You said, "I'm am an 18 year old female with several medical issues including diabeties insipidus, Leber's, hearing loss, Polycystic ovaries, hypothyroidism, hypopututarism, etc. which with the exception of Leber's (I've been blind all my life) all have onset within the last 2 years."

As I read that, not only did my heart go out to you, but my mouth dropped open. Three years ago I knew a young woman in her upper 20's, who was born blind and also had many of the conditions that you listed. I don't remember what caused her blindness. I don't think it was Leber's, but she had a lot of those other conditions. She told me what conditions she had -- many of these same ones -- and she said she couldn't imagine why she had them.

But now I read your post and I'm seeing the same ones. Two people having the same long list of things... something tells me all this is somehow connected. That is a pretty long list. What are the chances of that?

Swimmergirl, if you are still on the board, please make a post in this thread. I think you might need to compare notes with my friend. She is a wonderful person, and an expert with working with the blind. Maybe the two of you can figure out just what is going on.

I'm just... floored... in reading those symptoms of yours. Forgive me, but I'm pretty shocked at the moment. I just don't believe in coincidences.

Swimmergirl, I hope you read this and consider making a post.

Kendal
