Anyone else been through this? It’s used to evaluate bowel incontinence. I had this test performed by Mayo Clinic. It was administered by a GI nurse. Basically, the patient lays on their side. The practitioner places a sensor in the patients bottom and measures pressures of simulated defacation as well as a squeeze as if you were trying to “hold it”. The sensor can measure sphincter function to gage the patients incontinence. It was useful for me because it gave the doctors, both GI and urology, a good idea of what was going on in my pelvic floor. I didn’t need a urodynamics again because this test told the story. I was diagnosed with pelvic floor dyssynergia, or spastic pelvic floor. Basically, due to my neuropathy, the nerves down there are mis-firing sending the wrong signals of when to open and close causing me to leak. The test was a little embarrassing and mighty uncomfortable, but tolerable. |

Yep, been there, done that, and with similar results. ![]() --John |

Me too. Except, for me, the test was administered by a registered physical therapist. The result was pretty much the same, and the embarrassment factor was a revelation indeed. I had never guessed such things even existed. |
